This week at Science Club we have been Chemists! We enjoyed experimenting with cornflour and water and discovered how it's properties changed when we altered the water content and when we handled it gently or forcefully. We had a lot of fun and made a bit of a mess too!

Sports Week - Thursday

It was a hot and sunny day but the children have still had a great time with lots of hydration breaks (just like the World Cup), relaxing in the shade and even some games cooling off with water!

Year 6 danced the morning away with a Zumba class delivered by Gemma from Durham and Chester le Street SSP.

The children have taken part in Ultimate Frisbee, learning how to throw and catch before taking part in some small games.

Year 3 and 4 have played some great playground games to give them ideas they can use at break times to stay active.

Lots of classes have been showing courage and wisdom when taking part in some team games.

Sports Week - Wednesday Round Up

Badminton
All the children have taken part in a badminton session where they took part in some fun games and activities to develop their skills. It was great to have Gareth from Durham Swifts come in to deliver the session for us.

Quidditch
Caitlin from Durham and Chester le Street School Sports Partnership has been introducing some of the classes to a game of quidditch. They have been using and applying lots of skills from their PE lessons such as attacking and defending, dodging, teamwork and communication. It was great fun trying to score points with the quaffle or by catching the golden snitch!

Playground Games
Year 5 and 6 have been taking part in some fun playground games. Hopefully it gives them some inspiration of activities they can do at playtime, all while aiming to meet their 60 minutes of activity per day.

Games
Lots of classes have been playing a variety of different games where they have been using communication, teamwork and tactical awareness!

What a fantastic start to the week we have had for our Sports Week! There has already been lots of exciting activities taking place and many more to come over the next few days. Here's a round up of what's been happening so far:

Boccia ⚾️
Boccia is an inclusive paralympic sport, similar to bowls. The children learnt some skills through a range of fun activities like noughts and crosses before applying these skills to a game. It was fun to try something new and different.

Archery🎯
Some of the children tried their hand at archery. They learnt how to stand in the correct position and hold the bow and arrow but hitting the target was still pretty challenging!

Netball🏐
Year 4 loved playing some netball games this morning. They needed to use their wisdom to apply their understanding of attacking and defending to score points in a fun game of kings and queens.

Team games👫
3M worked collaboratively in some fun team games, working together to spread joy to each other.

What a wonderful afternoon we had for our Year 6 Forest School Reward. It was a very focussed afternoon where we created villages that included a school, blacksmith, florist, and a restaurant / cafe to name a few. We also enjoyed some treats and chatting around the campfire. 😄💐🍽️🏫

Y6 had a great day at the Life Centre in Newcastle. We had a lot of fun learning about dinosaurs, light, sound waves, the brain, the planets and constellations and the culmination was the opportunity to dissect a real heart as we deepened our knowledge of the circulatory system and the respiratory system. Although the bus journey was RED HOT, it was worth it for the exciting day we had. Well done Y6! 😃

On Tuesday the Year 6 Acting Through Song group had great fun performing 'Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat' for their families. This group has been together since the start of Year 4 and have been absolutely amazing. They did a great job on Tuesday night - they were all fabulous. I hope they will continue to find opportunities to perform as they move to their new schools.
