The fantastic Dunstable u3a is starting up yet another interest group!
This one is called "Nature Walks n Talks", and plans to appreciate nature by walking through it, and talking about it. Next Monday (17 August) will be the third one of the month, so it will be time for Dunstable u3a's monthly meeting. This month, we will hear from Roger Gibbons about "Butterflies of GB and France".
Roger has personally seen hundreds of our butterfly varieties and has many images to share with you to support his very interesting talk.
Doors open at 1.15pm when you can get a cuppa, chat to your friends, discuss with a committee member, find an interest group you'd like to join, or even become a member of our brilliant organisation! The talk will start at 2pm.
Feel free to bring a friend, so they can sample the benefits of membership.
Venue: The Square Methodist Church, entrance opposite Boyes.

Recently, in early July, the Dunstable u3a Wine Appreciation group 2 held its summer BBQ at the house and garden of Martin Humphries, the group leader. It was a very warm afternoon so we all sat under a gazebo. Martin was the chef for the day, cooking burgers, sausages and onions. We could then choose if we wanted a burger or sausage with onions in a plain bread roll or a roll with cheese cooked in it. All group members made their own choice. We consumed 10 bottles of red wine and 2 bottles of white wine. There were 7 of us in attendance: Janice, Christiane, Keith, Peter, Wendy, Pauline and Martin. Christine had made a French salad with a special dressing - this was Pauline's first experience of the group BBQ as she is a new member to the group.

It was a very enjoyable and entertaining afternoon with good food and company. It is now roll on our group Christmas lunch, again cooked and prepared at the our leader's house in December 2026

Our next monthly meeting will be on Monday, 20th July, and will feature Fred Finn - the world's most travelled man. Come along to the Methodist Church (entrance opposite "Boyes") from 1:15 to have a tea and a biscuit, chat to the trustees, join an interest group, or just meet up with your friends. Then come into the church for 2:00 to listen to this interesting talk.

New u3a Group Proposed:
If you're feeling bored, why not consider joining this potential new group, to get together and play a mix of board games? Choose from things like Cribbage, Chess, Back Gammon, Scrabble, Darts, Mahjong, Card games - Poker, Happy Families, UNO etc, Dominos, or feel free to suggest/bring your own.

If there's sufficient interest, proposed launch date is Tuesday, 23 June.

I hope that you are able to come and enjoy the AGM on Monday. Please remember that the pre-meeting activities such as booking coach trips will close at 1.45 to enable everyone to participate in the AGM when it starts at 2 o'clock. Go into the hall as early as possible to enjoy the ukuleles who will be performing before the start of the AGM. The choir will perform when the formal AGM finishes.

Help required at the AGM
We need a few more volunteers to ensure the success of our AGM on Monday, please help us by:-

Preparing for the AGM
Please can you help us prepare the venue by doing tasks such as setting out tables and chairs, placing reserved seating notices etc. before we open the doors at 1.15. I shall be there from 12.15 doing the preparation, a few extra hands would ensure we can be fully prepared on schedule. Please email me [email protected] if you are able to help.

Helping during the meeting - Tellers Required
The AGM includes voting on elections and decisions. To ensure that these are correct, honest and fair we need a few tellers to assess the show of hands in the different areas of the hall. Please email me [email protected] if you are able to help.

Our next monthly meeting, on 15 June, will be our Annual General Meeting. Please come and join us, to be informed about what your Trustees are doing, how we are performing financially, and to be able to participate in the election of new committee members. You will also be entertained by the Ukulele group and the Choir.

Come and join us at our next monthly meeting, on Monday, 18th May, when Simon Evers will talk to us about Turner and Constable - their lives and rivalry.
An illustrated talk looking at the lives as well as the work of both these famous artists, who were born a year apart 250 years ago. It explores the rivalry between the two artists.
Doors (opposite Boyes) open at 1:15 for tea and a chat before the talk starts at 2:00. Bring a friend, and encourage them to join the u3a!

Dunstable u3a's "2 milers" had a wonderful bluebell walk today in Ashridge. John Trevor led us deep into the sea of blue, along the main paths and some smaller deer trails. Many thanks for another memorable walk John.
