Fantastic hack with Jess and Dilly. Jess was, erm, spicy ๐Ÿค  Jess likes going out by herself, she has little patience, doesn't like to be made to wait and has little time for faffing. Despite being quite an anxious horse, she tries very hard to please and keep her anxiety contained. (I share a lot of the same traits as Jess, that's mane why we get on so well!). Unlike Connie, she doesn't like being made to baby sit and absolutely doesn't allow Dilly to rub her head all over her bum ๐Ÿ™ˆ Finally managed to find something high enough to climb onto Dilly (my first ridden hack with her)! I've now got the knack of mounting with one arm as the shoulder still doesn't allow me to grasp the saddle to pull. Bless her, she stood nicely as I chambered on! And then she didn't put a hoof wrong. Once on, Isuddenly thought,
bu**er, I've not taught her to have the long line over her bum, under her tail etc which I usually do when teaching a horse to lead another. But absolutely no issues with Dilly, it was like she's being doing it all her days ๐Ÿ™Her confidence grows with every ride. She's a very honest mare. Lots more fun to be had with this girl โค๏ธ

The benefits of cooperative care and force free training. Ollie and Cheyenne hadn't quite got rid of their winter fluff and both had terrible mats under their belly which in this heat, was causing issues. So I got the clippers out today. I didn't even have to train them to the noise or vibration as you normally would using clippers for the first time. Both stood happily as I clipped all their belly hair off! No stress, no headcollars and certainly no sedatives! Handling the youngsters and getting them used to different things really sets them up well . Nothing bothers these two and they have no fear as everything they've experienced has been positive. Mum Sal decided she was clearly missing out on something, So I ran the clippers over her body (didn't clip anything as she'd she'd her winter coat) and she took enjoyed the experience! I think they thought it was a bit of a spa treatment ๐Ÿคฃ

Super proud of Connie and Dilly today. It's the first time I've taken Dilly out by myself. And only about the 7th ride I've had since the accident last Sept. Dilly does have some separation anxiety, but it's getting better and today she really tried and overcame her anxiety on a new trail. Connie is just a dream with other horses. Even when Dilly was using her rump to scratch her nose on, or pulling a face at her, Connie just remains the good old Connie, solid as a rock. I had hoped to jump on Dily but the height difference (she makes Connie look like a 12.2hh pony!!) and the fact that I'm still very handicapped with my left shoulder,.meant I didn't manage. But we were out for 2.5hrs, though about half that time was letting them graze and helping Dillys anxiety disperse through filling her tummy! Pups are pooped, I know my muscles and shoulder will complain bitterly tomorrow, but it was worth it. No idea what Brea found...how can something so beautiful and innocent let off farts that make you look at your shoes thinking you've stood in something long dead? ๐Ÿคข Hoping it doesn't fester inside her and come bursting out the other end at aroubd 3am ๐Ÿ™ˆ
