🥰 ……. Time flies

D E A R // Mama

There will be a time
Not too far away
Where we will no longer
Hang off your every word
Or hang off the edge of your lounge
Or off your hip

There will be nights to come
Where you will sleep untangled
Free from our tiny bodies that kept you so warm
And when you go to bed, bed is where you will stay
Until you wake to the sun
Instead of the music of our teeny tiptoes
Seeking you out before dawn

Not too far from now
Your dining table will just be that
It will no longer proudly hold lego creations or school projects, it won’t be draped in uniforms or dumped with washing
And when you sit down to your meals
The silence & calm will feel heavy between bites
As you miss the joyful noise of a table full of your favourite mouths to feed & your favourite stories to hear

The bathroom floor will be dry
As the ships we sailed through rough waters each night will no longer be manned by your little captains
The soap stained love notes on the mirror will fade
And your showers, heartbreakingly uninterrupted

The windows won’t be littered with our fingerprints
The hallway no longer littered with our shoes
And the toy box that once overflowed into all the pockets of your house & heart will sit untouched
Full now of only memories
Ones of firsts and lasts
Glimmers of when time stood still
Watching us grow up in between dolls and cars

The hands you find forever full now
Will miss having us to hold
And your lap so often trapped by our little bodies
Will soon feel too cold

The solitude & silence you don’t get
As we take hostage of your heart
And the space & order you crave
In the busiest season of your life
Will soon haunt you
When your walls no longer hug us in
And your arms feel empty like the rooms we once lived

You’ll ache for this feeling
One of messy abundance
And deep, exhausted love

So mama
Ignore the mess for now
And embrace our beautiful chaos
Surrender to the melody of a full home & full heart

Because when we have grown & flown
And the house feels too big for just the two of you
This place where you grew us
And where love grew
Will fill up again
Over & over
When we all come back
When we all
Come home

Back to work today and I’ve learnt one thing over my time off . I’ve spent a good amount of that time with my Mum and when you think there’s not much to appreciate it’s because your not looking .There’s nothing quite as special and unique as a relationship between a mother and daughter , which to me is unbreakable .The relationship changes and shifts over time but one thing always remains the same, the unconditional love for each other never changes. I’ve got to know my Mum more and she really is a lady and I’m very grateful to have this time and I mean quality time with someone that has done without in the early days ,worked hard and raised 9 kids and now lives like a queen lol because we as her 9 children give her everything she wants or needs. She’s funny , kind, doses off to sleep mid sentence but she’s one in a million and I just feel that Mum is the one that keeps us together as a family , the glue that wears off but she’ll get a stronger glue to make sure we remain intact as a family . So appreciate what we have because it’s going to change and when that changes our lives will never be the same …. For all of us Mums /Dads out there we are all doing our best so give yourself credit and enjoy your time with family . 🥰😘
