Have you been watching the BBC's Eat Well For Less? Its amazing how much you can save by cooking a little more from scratch and it can be better for you!

Here's a recipe for a lovely tomato pasta sauce - it only costs about 40-50p, depending on your supermarket!

1 small onion
1 clove garlic
1 teaspoon oil
Pinch of dried herbs
1 tin tomatoes

Chop the onion and crush the garlic, and heat the oil. Fry the onion and garlic together slowly, for about 5 minutes, until its golden brown. Turn up the heat and add the tomatoes. Boil rapidly for 5 minutes, then simmer until you need to serve.

If you like, use a hand blender to create a smooth sauce. Serve with your favourite pasta, or freeze it up for another meal.

It's been a quiet month for CWK, but the time has not been wasted! We moved house at the beginning of January, and I took the huge step to dedicate to CWK full time! I started working towards an advanced diploma in food hygiene, and am in the process to become a training centre for the Royal Environmental Health Institute Scotland!

I'm currently working with the Broomhead community on Saturday mornings, showing yummy recipes that only cost pennies. And I'll be starting with some brilliant young people on their elementary cookery skills certificate this week.

Its gonna be a good year!

Stir fries in the East Neuk yesterday. Stir fries are a great way to get a variety of veg in your evening meal. We loved trying mange tout, baby corn, spring onions, peppers and carrots.

I make a really nice marinade for the meat - fresh ginger and garlic, sprinkle of 5-spice and a splash of soy sauce. Gives a lovely flavour to the meat, and if you use the soy sauce sparingly, healthy too.

Step In East Neuk learned about reducing saturated fat in our diet. Today we made a family favourite, lasagne - using turkey mince, extra herbs, and low fat cheese, we loved it! By making small changes to your diet, they can add up to a big change!
