Happy New Year everyone!

Hope everyone has enjoyed some time off!

This is a wee update on my situation for delivering courses:

My next appointment with my consultant is on 10th Feb when I am hoping I will be told I can start to put weight on it and get back to walking. Physio and Hydrotherapy are going really well but it will all depend on how well the bone is healing.

I also have to complete my requal (every 3 years) and it is due on 5th Feb! This means I will not be able to deliver after this date until I get re qualified. 😫 (I have until 5th May to do so)

So I’ll keep you posted on here but really it’s looking like I won’t be ready to deliver again til after May (ish) watch this space πŸ’š

The adventures of Jojo
First Aid for a First Aider

Just to set the story clear, at 3 o’clock on Wednesday, I decided to do a James Bond stunt on the way to pick up the bairns fae school!
I was cycling downhill to get them in the peeing rain, stupidly going too fast to take the corner and skidded! To stop myself, I put my left leg out but the bike kept skidding down the hill on its side with my leg left behind and I heard an almighty CRACK!
Holding on to my left thigh and lying in the road on my right side I told myself β€œthat is not good! Something is DEFINITELY wrong”. Thankfully I was oblivious to the lorry behind me as I may have then keeked ma pants but luckily he stopped in time no to squish me.
What happened next was absolutely astounding, people came from all around to help me, out their cars, from the school, an off duty paramedic and police officers, bringing fleece and crochet blankets, a duvet, a pillow, water to drink and umbrellas to keep me warm and as dry as possible. A wee foil blanket to top it off to keep the rain off too. A 999 call was made and ambulance on the way!
Thank you to EVERY single one of you who came to help me. I will be forever grateful πŸ’ž you should be very proud of yourself! Saline is just such an amazing wee village! Please let me know who you are if you helped, I was a bit out of it at the time!!
When the paramedics arrived all seemed fine until they (with some helpers) rolled me over on to the stretcher, it was then they realised how serious this was as my straight thigh ballooned out like a watermelon and went floppy. And I screamed the place down! Clearly a massive break πŸ™ˆ
Wheeled into the ambulance it was a case of step by step care by the amazing Blair and Heather my heros! First step get fluids in to raise my BP, then I was allowed morphine so that they could then straighten and traction my leg (Oweee!!) and put it in a splint. Only then could we get on our way to the hospital. Well that was it, dignity oot the windae and clothes had to be cut off. Why didn’t I shave my blooming legs this morning?! πŸ€£πŸ™ˆπŸ™ˆlying in my pants and wet clothes, wrapped up and on way to the Vic by awesome driver Heather and Blair keeping me sane in the back.
Into the emergency department, around 5pm, a smooth handover, I met another 10 new people all there to look after me!
Oh! the indignity again as the pants get cut off. At least they were clean! 🀣🀣 and a numbing injection so I couldn’t feel the pain in my leg. Soon after, I was into dry clothing and kept warm and comfy and sent up to a ward where I am looked after by another team around the clock keeping me pain free and comfortable (and the best tea and toast for supper) to wait for my operation slot which would likely be the next day.
Fasting from 2am was not fun cos I like ma grub but luckily I got taken in that day about 4ish and the amazing surgeon and his team got me sorted right oot!! 4 scars down the left side of my thigh, a fair bit of metal now lives inside πŸ™ˆπŸ€£
I am so overwhelmed and thankful to all the NHS Fife staff who have just been OUTSTANDING!!
Next steps (lol) will be baby ones encouraged by the physio team. So I’m just taking it a day at a time.
You can imagine I’ve had to tell this story a good few times to all these nosey people 🀣🀣 so I’m wiring it here for you to see πŸ’žπŸ’ž
THANK YOU!!!
