HT Update 4th September 2026

📖Fife Reading Challenge
This week, we celebrated all of the pupils who took part in and completed the Fife Reading Challenge.

Children brought in their certificates and shared some of their favourite books. It was lovely to hear about the different stories they have enjoyed and the books they would recommend to others.

A huge well done to everyone who took part. We are very proud of your enthusiasm for reading and the effort you put into completing the challenge! ⭐📖👏

📱 P6 Internet Safety Workshop
This morning, our Primary 6 pupils took part in an Internet Safety workshop delivered by Police Scotland.

Ian McArthur, Community Safety and Crime Reduction Officer, spoke with pupils about staying safe online, spotting potential risks, and what to do if something online makes them feel worried or uncomfortable. The pupils were engaged throughout and shared some thoughtful ideas and questions.

We would like to thank Ian for taking the time to visit our school and share such important messages with our pupils. We have also shared a number of online safety resources with P6 parents and carers to help continue these conversations at home.

🗣️ Meta-Skills – Communication
This week, our Primary 7 pupils have been exploring the meta-skill of Communication.

We discussed what good communication looks like and why it is such an important skill both in school and beyond. Pupils then took part in a series of drawing challenges, first working with Miss McGarva before putting their communication skills to the test with a partner.

The activity challenged pupils to give clear instructions, listen carefully and ask questions when they needed more information. There were lots of laughs along the way, as well as some excellent examples of teamwork and communication!

⭐ Assembly Focus
This week in our assemblies, we have been learning about being Ready, Respectful and Safe.

We talked about what respect means and how we can show it every day. Respect is about being kind, thinking about other people's feelings, using good manners and celebrating the things that make us all different and special.

At Camdean, we show respect by:

🚒 Nursery Focus
This week in Nursery, we have continued our learning about people who help us. We were very fortunate to welcome a visit from our local fire brigade, and a massive thank you to Dunfermline Fire Station for taking the time to come and visit us!

We learned all about the important job of a firefighter, including how they help to keep people safe. We even had the opportunity to hold the hose and have a go at shooting the water — what an exciting experience! 🚒💦

Our learning continued through lots of role play opportunities, with children taking on the roles of firefighters and other emergency service workers in our Nursery. We also had a fantastic drama session in the gym, where we explored and acted out lots of different emergency service roles. It was wonderful to see the children using their imaginations, working together and developing their confidence through play.

We have also been busy with lots of mark making, sharing our ideas, thoughts and knowledge about our learning. The children have been keen to record and communicate what they know in lots of different ways.

😊 Sharing the Learning
A reminder that our first Sharing the Learning event of the session will take place on Thursday 10th September from 2.00pm to 2.40pm. This term, classes will be sharing learning from their current Interdisciplinary Learning (IDL) topic.

Parents and carers are welcome to enter through the office entrance from 1.50pm and make their way to the school hall, where they will be able to sign in before the event begins.

After the event, parent/carers are welcome to visit the hall from 2.40pm to 3.00pm to collect surplus Amazon goods available through the Big Hoose Project. Please remember to bring a bag if you wish to collect any items. Pupils will leave school at 3.00pm as normal.

HT Update 28th August 2026

We've had a great week of learning across the school and nursery. Through our page, we'll keep you updated on learning, achievements and school life throughout the session. Here are some of this week's updates from across the school and nursery.

Seesaw
QR codes have now been sent home to allow parents and carers to join the correct class on Seesaw. This is the platform we will use throughout the school year to share your child's learning journey. If you experience any difficulties accessing Seesaw, please contact the school office and we will be happy to help.

Primary 6 1:1 iPads
Our Primary 6 learners have been making good use of their new 1:1 iPads and are already using them regularly as part of their learning. The devices are being used across a range of curriculum areas and are helping children to access learning in different ways, work collaboratively and develop their digital skills.

Assembly Focus
This week, we learned about the meta-skill of Communication. Children explored the many ways we communicate with others, including through active listening, body language, gestures and facial expressions. We discussed how these skills help us understand others and share our own ideas effectively.

We also focused on our school value of Community, discussing what it means to be part of a school community and how our words and actions can help everyone feel welcomed, included and supported. It was great to hear children sharing examples of how they show our value of Community both in school and beyond.

Nursery Focus
It has been a very busy week at the nursery ,with all the children becoming settled and confidently exploring the different nursery spaces, making choices about their learning and developing new skills.

This term, our learning focus is “People Who Help Us”, and this week we had a very special visit from a vet. The children explored veterinary equipment, learnt how vets care for animals and had the opportunity to meet and observe two tortoises brought in by Mrs Fraser.

Our vet area has also been a particular focus, with children becoming deeply engaged in role-play as vets and nurses. They have been exploring a range of veterinary tools and using their imagination to recreate experiences from the vet visit.

Out in the garden, the children have started to develop an interest in superhero role play. We will be extending this interest next week and making links with our People Who Help Us learning theme.

Welcome Back!

It has been great to welcome our children back to school and nursery this week. Classrooms and play spaces have been busy, and it has been lovely to see everyone settling back in so well.

A special welcome goes to our new Primary 1 children, who have made a positive start to school. We'd also like to give a special mention to our new nursery children, who have been busy settling into their new surroundings and getting to know their friends and staff. We are also delighted to welcome the new children and families who have joined us across the school and nursery.

As we begin the new session, I am pleased to be taking on the role of Acting Headteacher, alongside Denise Wilson, Acting Depute Headteacher. We are looking forward to working with our children, families and staff as we continue to build on the strengths of our school community.

Thank you to our families for your continued support and to our staff team for all their hard work in preparing for the new session. We are looking forward to a busy and successful year ahead.

HT Update 26th June 2026

Sports Day
We want to say a huge thank you to all the teachers, who at very short notice turned our 2 halls into an indoor potted sports festival!

Also a huge thank you to our Primary 7 leaders, who completed multiple demonstrations and supported our youngest learners to participate. They were an absolute credit to our school and were model students throughout the whole morning. We are extremely proud!

The scores from the event will be announced at the assemblies in the coming week.

🌍 WORLD CUP CELEBRATION DAY 🌍⚽️
We had a fantastic time celebrating our World Cup-themed Sports Day on Thursday 18th June! The playground was full of colour, energy and excitement as children proudly represented countries from around the world.

Pupils arrived dressed in a wonderful variety of international football strips and country colours, creating a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere across the school. It was great to see such enthusiasm and creativity, with many children sharing why they had chosen to represent their particular country.

Alongside our usual Sports Day events, children took part in a range of fun World Cup-themed challenges and P1-3 designed world cup mascots, whilst P4-7 deigned new World Cup trophies.

School Football Team
The Camdean Primary School football team represented the school brilliantly last week, taking part in both the Rosyth Cup and the John Harrison Trophy.

We are delighted to share that Camdean Primary was announced overall winner of the tournament by Active Schools, following a closely contested final against Kings Road Primary. The standard of play throughout the tournament was high, with many competitive matches along the way.

The team worked incredibly hard, demonstrating skill, determination and excellent sportsmanship. Their behaviour was outstanding throughout, and they were a true credit to the school.
This week, the team also participated in the Gary Riddell Tournament, winning two matches and losing two. Given the heat that afternoon, they performed extremely well.

We are extremely proud of all the players this session and would like to extend our sincere thanks to their dedicated coaches, Miss Kane and Mrs Wilson, for their continued hard work and support. ⚽🏆

Nursery Leavers Celebration
We marked our Nursery Leavers’ Celebration on Wednesday 17th June in the school gym hall. This event recognised an important milestone for our children as they prepare to begin Primary 1 in August.

Families joined us for the morning, to see their child receive their graduation certificate.

We are proud of all that the children have achieved and the positive attitudes they have developed towards learning.

Thank you to our nursery team for organising the event and to families for their ongoing support. We wish our nursery leavers well as they move on to Primary 1.

⭐ Assembly Focus
This week, we welcomed Julia D**e from Fife Libraries to our whole school assembly to introduce this year’s Fife Reading Challenge. The challenge encourages children to enjoy reading for pleasure over the summer holidays.

Children who complete the challenge will receive a medal and certificate, and their names will be entered into a prize draw. Prizes include Amazon vouchers and the opportunity for a special author visit to our school.

The Fife Reading Challenge is open to everyone, not just children, so families can join in and enjoy reading together. It is free to take part and runs from 20th June until 31st August, with prize winners notified in September.

HT Update 12th June 2026

P7 High School Transition
We are incredibly proud of all our P7 pupils who returned to High school this week for their second set of visits. During the two-day visit, pupils followed their timetable to give them a good flavour of S1. The induction days provided a valuable opportunity for pupils not only to experience aspects of the High School curriculum, but also to meet pupils from other cluster schools and begin building positive relationships with key staff members ahead of their transition.

All of our P7s represented the school brilliantly with their enthusiasm, confidence and excellent behaviour. Well done to everyone involved!

P1 Transition/Nursery Update
Thank you to all parents and carers who attended our recent P1 information session. It was lovely to welcome you into Camdean Primary School and share an overview of what to expect as your child begins their P1 journey. During the session, families had the opportunity to meet members of the Senior Leadership Team and listen to a short presentation outlining key routines, expectations and ways to support your child as they settle into school.

At the same time, children from Camdean Nursery visited their new classrooms and met their P1 teacher. Children joining us from other nurseries were also supported to visit their class and begin to familiarise themselves with the school environment.
Parents were invited to visit the P1 classrooms, meet the teachers and see where learning will take place. This provided a valuable opportunity to build connections and support a smooth transition for everyone.

We were delighted with how well the children engaged during their visits and are very much looking forward to welcoming them back in August as our new P1 learners.

Sports Day
Weather permitting, Sports Day will take place on Thursday 18th June in the upper playground at the following times:
• Primary 1–3: 9.30–10.30am
• Primary 4–7: 11.15–12.15pm

Please wear an international strip, country colours, or sports clothing (no club strips). Ensure sun cream is applied if needed and bring a water bottle.
If the event has to be cancelled due to poor weather, children will take part in World Cup–themed activities in school.

⚽️🌍 World Cup Celebration 🌍⚽️
As part of our Sports Day celebrations on Thursday 18th of June, we will be adding a World Cup theme to some of the day's activities.

Children are invited to wear an international football strip or the colours of a country they would like to represent. Throughout the day, there will be opportunities to take part in some fun World Cup-themed competitions and challenges.

Our normal Sports Day events and activities will still take place as planned – the World Cup activities are simply an extra way for children to enjoy the day and celebrate the spirit of international sport.

If your child does not have an international football strip, that's absolutely fine – they can wear the colours of a country of their choice instead. Please do not go out and buy anything specially for the day.

Please note: club football strips should not be worn; we would love to see children representing international teams and countries instead.

⭐ Assembly Focus
This week in assemblies, we learned about the history of the FIFA World Cup, exploring how the tournament has grown and developed over time, as well as some memorable players and moments along the way. We used this as a starting point to focus on positive role models, discussing qualities such as kindness, respect, teamwork and trying your best. We also explored role models beyond sport, thinking about people in our everyday lives who set a good example. We recognised that not all behaviour we see is positive and thought about how we can learn from those moments too. This linked closely to our school value of being a model student, as we reflected on our own behaviour and how younger children may look up to us, encouraging us all to be positive role models every day.

HT Update 5th June 2026

A Digital Milestone for Primary 5
It has been a busy and exciting week in school, particularly for our Primary 5 pupils, who received their iPads on Thursday afternoon. Our own Miss Kane – now a fully qualified Apple Coach – led the pupils through the initial set-up process, including how to store files and how to stay safe online. A parent guide will be shared shortly to support families with this transition.

Miss Kane and the Primary 5 teachers were extremely impressed by the pupils’ focus and digital skills during the session. The iPads are now ready for use when pupils return as Primary 6, and will not be sent home until after the summer holidays.

Congratulations to Miss Kane on achieving her Apple Coach qualification. We are delighted to have this expertise within our team and look forward to her continued support in enhancing digital literacy across the school.

Sports Day
Unfortunately, due to the very mixed weather this week, we had to postpone our Sports Day. It has now been rescheduled for Thursday 18th June.

Fife Music Service Instrumental Instructor Concert
Primary 4 enjoyed attending the Fife Music Service Instrumental Instructor Concert, where they experienced a wide variety of performances from over 50 talented musicians. The programme included classical pieces alongside familiar music from films, television, sports, and even computer games.
The children were particularly excited to spot Mrs Kelso performing in the orchestra and were keen to ask her about opportunities for woodwind lessons in the upper school.
A huge thank you to the staff and PSAs who supported the visit, and to the parents and carers who kindly volunteered their time to accompany the classes.

Assembly Focus
This week in our upper assembly, we learned about World Environment Day and discussed the impact of climate change on our planet. We looked at how it affects weather, wildlife and natural environments, and considered practical ways we can make a difference, such as reducing waste, recycling and being mindful of energy use. The children each set themselves a challenge to make one small change that can help the environment.

Nursery Update
We were delighted to welcome Elena’s Grandad, who is a beekeeper, into nursery this week. He shared his knowledge about bees with the children, bringing our recent learning to life following last week’s insect walk. The children were fascinated as they learned more about how bees live and the important role they play in our environment. As a special treat, he kindly donated jars of his own locally produced honey along with oatcakes for the children to taste at afternoon snack – a wonderful opportunity to support and celebrate local produce. 🐝❤️

The children have also been enjoying their outdoor football sessions on the grass. We began with a warm-up, building confidence through simple ball skills such as kicking and running. The children practised dribbling around cones and developed their control of the ball, before moving on to passing with a partner, focusing on teamwork and turn-taking. A highlight was the penalty shootout, where the children aimed for goals from different distances while developing their counting skills.

School Holiday
A reminder that Monday 1st June is a Fife School holiday.

P2/3 & P3 Visit the National Museum of Scotland
Our P2/3 and P3 classes recently enjoyed a fantastic educational visit to the National Museum of Scotland. The children had a wonderful time exploring the many fascinating exhibits and taking part in exciting learning experiences linked to their classroom topics.

One of the highlights of the trip was discovering the Egyptian artefacts. The pupils were amazed by the ancient objects, including mummies, hieroglyphics and statues, and enjoyed learning about life in Ancient Egypt. The visit brought their learning to life and inspired lots of thoughtful questions and discussions.

The children represented the school beautifully throughout the day with their excellent behaviour, enthusiasm and curiosity. A huge thank you goes to the teachers and PSAs who helped organise and support the visit, as well as to the parents and carers who volunteered their time to accompany the classes.

P7 High School Transition
We are incredibly proud of all our P7 pupils who attended their first set of induction days at High School yesterday and today. During the visit, pupils took part in a range of activities across the curriculum. Yesterday the focus was on Literacy, Numeracy and STEAM, while today centred on Health and Wellbeing.

The induction days provided a valuable opportunity for pupils not only to experience aspects of the High School curriculum, but also to meet pupils from other cluster schools and begin building positive relationships with key staff members ahead of their transition.

All of our P7s represented the school brilliantly with their enthusiasm, confidence and excellent behaviour. Well done to everyone involved!

⭐ Assembly Focus
This week in assemblies we learned all about Vesak, sometimes known as Buddha Day. Vesak is a special celebration for Buddhists around the world. It marks the birth, enlightenment and death of the Buddha. We found out how people celebrate by visiting temples, giving to others, decorating with lanterns and taking time to think about kindness and respect.

Children also shared their own examples of how people have been kind to them over the past few days, helping us to see how small acts of kindness can make a big difference to how we feel. This links to our wellbeing indicators of being respectful and responsible, as we think about how our actions can help others and make the world a kinder place.

Nursery Update
This week we have been reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar to introduce the butterfly life cycle and the idea that living things grow and change. Through the story, we have learned about the stages of a butterfly — egg, caterpillar, chrysalis/cocoon and butterfly — while also developing counting, sequencing, and vocabulary skills. Some children went to the gym, acting out the story, ordering lifecycle pictures, creating butterfly crafts, and using sequencing cards to retell the story. We have all been keeping an eye on our caterpillars, they are growing so big!! If you would like to look or add learning from home to our learning please just ask.

We are continuing P1 transitions, visiting various parts of the school and grounds. The nursery children also enjoyed their sports day this week. Please see Seesaw for some fantastic photos of the day!

Babcock Festival of Engineering
Our Primary 6/7 and Primary 7 pupils had an excellent opportunity to attend Babcock’s Festival of Engineering in Rosyth, where they joined over 300 school children in a highly engaging, hands-on STEM experience.

Throughout the day, pupils took part in a range of interactive challenges, including ship buoyancy, bridge building, robotics and communication tasks, as well as immersive virtual reality activities. These experiences encouraged teamwork, creativity and problem-solving, while helping pupils to see how their learning connects to real-world engineering contexts.

The event, supported by apprentices and industry partners, gave our pupils valuable insight into the wide range of careers within engineering and technology. It was particularly inspiring for them to hear how early experiences like this can lead to future opportunities, including apprenticeships.

Our pupils represented Camdean Primary exceptionally well, demonstrating enthusiasm, curiosity and resilience in tackling new challenges. The visit helped to raise aspirations and broaden their understanding of STEM pathways, reinforcing the importance of these skills for Scotland’s future.

Response Text Types
As part of our school improvement work in writing, pupils from P1, P3 and P6/7 shared with the leadership team the different ways they record their response text types. Children demonstrated how they use a range of approaches, including jotters, templates, Freeform and Microsoft Word, to support how they organise and present their ideas to their class teacher.

⭐ Assembly Focus
This week in assemblies, we have been learning all about Walk to School Week. We talked about how walking, scooting or cycling to school helps keep our bodies healthy, our minds happy, and our planet clean. This connects to the Healthy wellbeing indicator, as we explored ways to stay active and look after our bodies each day. We also learned about the different journeys children in Scotland and around the world make to get to school, including travelling by boat. Well done to everyone who has taken part and given it a go!

Nursery Update
Our Nursery children are continuing to enjoy their P1 transition visits, exploring different areas of the school and outdoor grounds. Our lifecycle learning wall is continuing to develop, alongside our growing caterpillars—please do take a look if you are in the Nursery.
