A Wonderful Start to the New School Year

It has been a fantastic week at Townhill Primary School and Nursery as we begin another year of "Climbing the Hill to Success" together.

The children have returned with enthusiasm, positivity and a real eagerness to learn. It has been wonderful to see them settling quickly into their new classes and routines, reconnecting with friends and embracing the exciting opportunities that lie ahead. Thank you to all our families for your support in helping the children have such a positive and successful start to the new term.

Nursery News

Our Nursery children have also had a wonderful start to the term.

I have particularly enjoyed spending time in the Nursery this week, getting to know the children through play, conversations, activities and stories. There has been lots of laughter as we have played together, and it has been a joy to see the children's curiosity, creativity and growing independence shining through.

You may have noticed our new approach to self-registering for lunch. The children have embraced this responsibility with great enthusiasm, and it is already helping them to build confidence, independence and recognise their names. It also provides families with a helpful way to see the lunch choices available each day.

Exciting Times Ahead for P7

There is a real buzz of excitement among our P7 pupils as they prepare for their residential trip to Dalguise on Monday. This is always a memorable experience, providing opportunities to develop teamwork, resilience, confidence and independence while creating lasting memories with friends. We wish all of our P7s a fantastic week filled with adventure, fun and new experiences.

As we begin a new school year, there is a real sense of excitement and possibility across Townhill Primary School and Nursery. Whether you are returning to our community or joining us for the first time, I would like to extend a very warm welcome to all our children, families, staff and partners.

At Townhill, we are proud of our school mission statement, "Climbing the Hill to Success." This reminds us that success is a journey rather than a destination. Every child, every member of staff and every family member has an important part to play as we work together to overcome challenges, celebrate achievements and reach new heights.

I am incredibly proud and excited to begin this new school year as your new Headteacher. I can already see that our school is a vibrant, caring and ambitious community, and I am fully committed to ensuring every child feels safe, happy and supported. It was wonderful to see our children this morning, arriving full of energy and curiosity, with lots of smiles and looking so smart in their school uniforms.

Thank you to the parents and carers I had the pleasure of meeting this morning for such a warm welcome. I place great value on open communication and strong partnerships with families, and I look forward to working closely with you throughout the year to support the success and wellbeing of every child.

I will be at the school gates each morning over the next few weeks, so please do stop by, say hello and introduce yourself. I look forward to getting to know you and becoming part of the Townhill community.

A Final Thank You❤️

As I come to the end of my 22 years as Headteacher at Townhill Primary School and Nursery, I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has been part of this incredible journey.

I have loved every minute. Townhill is a very special place, made even more special by the wonderful children who come through our doors each day. They have made me laugh and made me proud. I'll miss some of the daily hugs!

To our amazing staff, thank you for your dedication, teamwork and commitment to Townhill. Together we have shared challenges, successes, laughter, tears and endless cakes. The strength of Team Townhill is our greatest asset.

To our parents and families, thank you for your trust, support and partnership over the years. Working together has helped create this amazing school community that we are all so proud of.

And to our wider community, thank you for always being there for our school. Townhill is a place where people genuinely care and work together to help our children be their very best. And don't worry—the 150th celebration memorabilia has been safely packed away and is ready for its next outing at the 200th... although I suspect someone else will volunteer to organise that one! 😄

Thank you also for the many kind words, cards, gifts and flowers. The generosity has been overwhelming. I think I may need to invest in a few more vases—and possibly a bigger house to fit them all in!

Now it's time for everyone to enjoy a well-deserved summer break. Take time to rest, recharge your batteries, make memories with family and friends, and enjoy every moment.

Knowing how quickly the school years pass, it will feel like no time at all before 19th August arrives and we're all wondering where the holidays went!

Thank you for 22 unforgettable years of friendship, support and memories.

Yesterday was an emotional day as we celebrated our nursery children preparing to start P1 and our P7 pupils getting ready to move on to high school.

For families, these milestones bring a mixture of pride, joy and a few tears as they reflect on just how quickly childhood passes. It feels like only yesterday that many of these children first walked through the doors of Townhill Nursery or Primary, and now they are ready to take their next big step.

Our nursery children leave us full of confidence, curiosity and excitement for school while our P7 pupils leave with memories and friendships Each child has climbed their own hill to success, and made us very proud along the way.

To all of our leavers, we wish you happiness, success and wonderful adventures in the years ahead. Never stop believing in yourselves and always remember that you will be part of the Townhill family.

Yesterday we celebrated our wonderful P7 Award Ceremony and reflected on another fantastic year of learning, achievement and success.

We are incredibly proud of all our pupils. Throughout the year, they have shown determination, resilience, kindness and a commitment to doing their best. Through their efforts, they continue to demonstrate what it means to be a Townhill pupil.

As we look back on the year, it is clear that our children are true stars, each climbing the hill to success in their own unique way. Whether through learning, sport, creativity, leadership or simply being a good friend, every child has made us proud.

A special congratulations goes to our P7 pupils as they prepare for their next adventure. We wish them every success as they continue their journey, using their talents, strengths and confidence to achieve their dreams.

🌟 P1–P6 Awards Ceremony 2026 🌟

A huge well done to all of our P1–P6 pupils who were recognised at yesterday’s Awards Ceremony.

Awards were presented for Literacy, Numeracy and Overall Hard Work and Effort, celebrating the commitment, determination and achievements of our learners throughout the year. We were also delighted to present our Sports Day Gold, Silver and Bronze medals. In some events, scores were incredibly close, resulting in joint medal positions – a wonderful reflection of the effort and talent shown by so many pupils.

We are extremely proud of every child at Townhill Primary School. Whether receiving an award today or not, every pupil has worked hard, made progress and contributed positively to our school community.

⭐ Well done to all our children – you are all stars! ⭐

Headteacher Update – 28th June

What a special week it has been at Townhill. With the sunshine returning and only five days left of term, there is a real buzz of excitement across the school and nursery.

Our Sports Day was a highlight—full of energy, teamwork and laughter. The effort from all children was wonderful to see, and it was fantastic to have so many parents and grandparents joining in (especially the 200m in that heat!). Thank you also to those who kindly provided refreshments. It felt like a fitting final Sports Day for me at Townhill.

It was a pleasure to welcome Mrs McLean on Thursday. She spent time meeting staff and children and commented on the calm, positive atmosphere throughout both the school and nursery—something we can all be very proud of.

Our Primary 7 pupils also took an important step forward, enjoying two days at Queen Anne High School. They embraced the experience with maturity and confidence, preparing well for the next stage of their journey.

Learning Highlights
• Nursery & P1: Made the most of the warm weather with outdoor water play and cooling activities.
• P2/3: Continued to build confidence in numeracy and presentation.
• P3: Shared personal talks with growing confidence.
• P3/4: Developed coding skills by creating their own games.
• P4/5 & P5/6: Enjoyed a rich learning experience at the National Museum of Scotland.
• P6: Completed end-of-year assessments, ready for their move to P7.
• P7: Busy with final preparations for their end-of-year show.

As this is my final weekly update, I want to say a heartfelt thank you. It has been a privilege to be part of such a caring and dedicated school community. While this is an emotional time, I leave knowing Townhill is in a strong and positive place, ready for the future.
