πŸ₯‹ HOW DO YOU PREPARE STUDENTS FOR KUMITE? πŸ”₯

You don't simply practise techniques and then jump straight into sparring.

Here, our students are working through an intense partner-targeting drill designed to bridge the gap between technical practice and live Kumite.

⚑ Explosive attacks
🎯 Accurate targeting
πŸ₯‹ Distance & timing
🧠 Decision-making
πŸ”₯ Confidence under pressure

The intensity is increasing, the targets are becoming more realistic and the students are being challenged to attack with speed, accuracy and control.

This is where practice starts becoming performance. πŸ‘Š

πŸ₯‹ BEING ABLE TO THROW THE KICK ISN'T ENOUGH...

You need to be able to land it on the move. 🎯

In this drill, our students are developing Ura Mawashi Geri (Hook Kick) against a moving pool-noodle target.

That means constantly adjusting:

πŸ”΅ Distance
πŸ”΅ Timing
πŸ”΅ Footwork
πŸ”΅ Accuracy
πŸ”΅ Balance

Ura Mawashi Geri is an extremely important technique for kumiteβ€”and one that should be continually developed as students progress.

Because mastering the movement is only the beginning.

Seeing the opportunity and landing it at exactly the right moment is where the real skill begins. ⚑πŸ₯‹

πŸ₯‹ WHAT HAPPENS WHEN IT DOESN'T WORK FIRST TIME?

Sometimes they grab the bean bag.

Sometimes they miss it completely. πŸ˜„

But watch what happens next...

They smile, reset and try again. πŸ’™

This fun reaction drill develops:
πŸ”΅ Timing
πŸ”΅ Accuracy
πŸ”΅ Hand-eye coordination
πŸ”΅ Concentration
πŸ”΅ Reaction speed

But there's another lesson being learned, resilience.

Our students are discovering that getting something wrong isn't something to fear.

It's simply another opportunity to have another go.
πŸ’ͺ Try.
😊 Smile.
πŸ”„ Reset.
⭐ Go again.

Because learning how to respond when things don't go your way can be just as important as learning how to succeed.

πŸ₯‹ ONLY 3–5 YEARS OLD... AND ALREADY LEARNING KARATE! πŸ’™

These little karateka are members of our Pre-School Programme, and they're practising one of karate's cornerstone techniques, Gyaku Zuki (Reverse Punch).
But at just 3, 4 and 5 years old, we're developing much more than a punch.

πŸ”΅ Coordination
πŸ”΅ Balance
πŸ”΅ Concentration
πŸ”΅ Listening skills
πŸ”΅ Confidence

We're not expecting perfect karate technique at this age. We're introducing movement, creating successful learning experiences and helping children discover just how much they're capable of.

The karate technique is the activity. Developing the child is the outcome. ⭐

πŸ‘‰ Could your 3–5-year-old be ready to start their karate journey?

WHAT IF YOUR FIRST ATTACK WASN'T YOUR REAL ATTACK?

The best karate athletes don't always attack with the first technique they show.

Sometimes...

They make their opponent believe one kick is coming...

Before changing it completely.

In this drill, our students begin with a Yoko Geri (Side Kick) before instantly transforming it into an Ura Mawashi Geri (Hook Kick).

The exercise develops:
⚑ Tactical thinking
🎯 Technical precision
πŸŒ€ Balance and body control
🧠 Decision-making
πŸ₯‹ Deception and adaptability

At SPORT KARATE EAST, we teach students that successful karate isn't just about moving faster...

It's about thinking smarter.
πŸ’™ Think.
πŸ’™ Adapt.
πŸ’™ Perform.
