SIA Course Self Study

We have now merged our SIA Course self-study workbooks onto the Highfield LMS Platform.

This not only reduces our carbon footprint, but now enables our learners to fully complete their pre-course self-study materials electronically through personal devices such as laptops/tablets/smartphones ahead of their SIA Training without the need for completing paper or pdf workbooks.

We still reserve the ability to utilise the original paper-based learning materials if required.

The Level 2 Certificate in Spectator Safety (formally known as L2 NVQ) is designed for individuals who are already employed or seeking employment in positions such as Crowd Safety Steward, Response Security Officer or Event Support. It aligns with the Skills Active Spectator Safety National Occupational Standards, which are recommended as the minimum qualification level in the SGSA’s Green Guide for Safety at Sports Grounds.

Completion of this qualification is a pre-requisite for obtaining employment in roles that involve large scale event and crowd control, including Sports Stadiums, Concerts, Racecourses, Festivals, Arenas, and other settings that handle large crowds.

SIA Licence Renewal (2026): Rules, Fees, Top-Up Training and How to Renew on Time

The core renewal rule has not changed. You can usually apply to renew up to 4 months before expiry, which gives you time to complete any required training and deal with identity or background check delays.

For renewal applications submitted before 1 April 2026, the current rebated SIA licence fee is £184. For applications received on or after 1 April 2026, the fee rises to £204. This change applies to renewals as well as first-time applications.

Training rules also matter more now than they used to. Door Supervisor and Security Guard renewals require refresher training.

When can you renew your SIA licence?
In most cases, you can renew your licence up to 4 months before the expiry date shown in your SIA account or on your current badge. Your next licence period does not usually “waste” the remaining time on your current badge because the renewed licence normally begins the day after the current one ends. That means early renewal is usually the smart move, especially if you may need training first or you cannot afford a gap in work.
