In amongst all the weird interaction yesterday were people asking why.
Why am I doing the splits?
Why am I doing splits on a different angle?
I never got a coherent question or answer.
These are all from calendar shoots and in about of spaces splits either doesn’t fit, or I’m so close to the ground that I’m lost in it (especially in woodlands).
If I use a natural line like a tree, I can use it to support the pose.
When my hands are down, I find it really easy on my back as I’m in a forward bend for the majority of the pose.
If it’s in front of me and raised, it feels a lot more like a backbend and I have to be really active in my top leg.
I WILL say that a lot of these comments come from folks who need a lot less than splits in their life. Maybe just a few deep breaths in a wee forward bend would be good. Splits isn’t beginner stuff.
But, it always makes my pleats look stunning.
Oh, and it sells calendars ;)

We have just finished designing a new tartan for the charity I run, Heart Space and inspired by that I’ve been delving into the recent histories of highland clearances, population shift, the Industrial Revolution (I’ve a head start on that from growing up in Lanark), healthy populations, and textiles. This is the second tartan design project I’ve been involved in and we are now taking this show on the road with a flow yoga class, a chair yoga class, and a soundbath with gaelic music included into the session.
We would love to welcome you to pop up for the day and enjoy this session in the historic Verdant Works, Dundee!

How is it August already? I feel like summer is slipping away, much like this photo because there was a torrential downpour right after this!
This is warrior 2, a staple of my practice for just being in my legs and lengthening my spine. Most don’t believe me when I tell them but when I first started yoga (over 20 years ago 😅) it was the simple lift of the arms that was the hardest! I could barely keep my arms up for two breaths, and I can still recall the visceral sensation in my deltoids!
