Welcome to the University of Dundee Archive Collections. We hold all kinds of records including documents, photographs, plans and oral histories. The collections tell the stories of the University, about individuals, industry and organisations in Dundee and beyond. We'll be posting about our events and activities and letting you see what happens behind the scenes in the Archive

You are welcome to come and visit us; the Archive is open to everyone and access to the records is free

We're in the basement of the University's Tower Building. We are open Monday - Wednesday and Friday, 9am-1pm and 2pm -5pm. Our collections are of interest to a wide range of people. You can look at records that tell you about education, religion, social, cultural, environmental and business history, about medicine and health, local and family history. A 1923 aerial photograph focusing Tay Works taken for Jute Industries Ltd. Among the other visible buildings is Prison (behind the Sheriff Court) which closed in 1927. When it was demolished the Corporation Transport Depot was extended onto the site.

Today is the 111th anniversary of the Battle of Loos. Often described as 's Flodden, the huge loss of life included many men from the city. One of the fallen was Lt. Bernard S. Sturrock, 4th Black Watch (Dundee's Own) who had studied Scots Law at University College, Dundee in 1912-13. The 23 year-old was a well-known cricketer for Forfarshire and played rugby for Panmure. Prior to enlisting in 1914 he worked for Messrs R. C. Thomson and Murdoch, Chartered Accountants.
