After enjoying a lovely morning and afternoon in the sunshine, the BIG rainstorm arrived! But that didn’t stop the fun! We headed inside and enjoyed a busy afternoon filled with dance and movement, drawing, magnetic tile building, stories and lots of child-led play.

Through our dance and movement, the children developed their gross motor skills, coordination, balance and confidence.

Our drawing supported fine motor skills, pencil control and creativity, while the magnetic tiles encouraged problem-solving, concentration, early maths and imaginative thinking.

Story time helped to build language, listening and communication skills, while playing together around the room supported sharing, turn-taking, friendships, independence and social development.

What a lovely way to turn a rainy afternoon into another opportunity to play, learn, explore and have fun together!

We’re delighted to share that we have successfully passed our recent Environmental Health inspection!

A huge well done to Craig for all of his hard work in maintaining such high standards within our kitchen.

Keeping our children safe, healthy and well cared for is always our priority, so we’re very proud to receive this result! 👨🏻‍🍳💜

Morning. This badge was found just outside of the nursery and we would love to get it back to its owner. Please share. We have the badge in the building for collection. Many thanks.

The National Year of Reading is encouraging children to discover the joy of reading while enjoying the fresh air outdoors. For children in our service, this provides valuable opportunities to develop early literacy skills, spark imagination and creativity, strengthen language and communication, and build positive associations with books. Reading in outdoor environments also supports wellbeing, encourages curiosity about the world around them, and creates fun, engaging learning experiences that foster a lifelong love of reading.

This message is being brought to life locally through initiatives such as The Big Dundee Book Hunt, organised by Amy Lorente of Little Leaves Bookshop. The event invites families to explore parks and green spaces across Dundee in search of free children's books hidden throughout the city, combining the excitement of outdoor adventure with the enjoyment of reading. Amy created the initiative as part of the National Year of Reading to inspire more children to read while encouraging families to spend time together outdoors. More than 750 children's books are being made available for young people to discover, take home and keep, helping to ensure that books are accessible, exciting and connected to positive family experiences.

For the children and families who use our service, initiatives like The Big Dundee Book Hunt highlight how reading can take place anywhere and can be a shared community experience. By linking books with play, exploration and outdoor learning, children are encouraged to view reading as an enjoyable part of everyday life, supporting both their learning and wellbeing while nurturing a lifelong love of books. Little Leaves Bookshop ❤️

📚❤️🌳 A Dundee bookshop owner is set to hide more than 750 children’s books in parks and green spaces across the city this month, encouraging youngsters to discover the joy of reading while enjoying the fresh air.

The Big Dundee Book Hunt, organised by Amy Lorente from Little Leaves Bookshop, takes place on 15 and 16 August as part of the National Year of Reading. Children who find a book can take it home and keep it!

The locations will be revealed on 14 August over on Little Leaves Bookshop’s socials!

Playday 2026 - Here, There and Everywhere!

Today is Playday, the national day for play! It's a chance to celebrate the joy, fun and importance of play in children's lives and to recognise all the wonderful ways children learn, grow and connect through playing every day.

This year's theme, "Here, There and Everywhere", reminds us that play can happen anywhere. Whether it's in the garden, at the park, on a walk to school, in the living room or exploring the local community, every place has the potential for adventure, imagination and discovery. When children are given opportunities to play in everyday spaces, it helps them build confidence, develop new skills and create happy memories.

To celebrate Playday, we have created a local community map showcasing places for our children to explore and play, including Finlathen Park, Trottick Ponds and the Dighty Burn. The map highlights some of the wonderful natural spaces, landmarks and points of interest that can be found right on our doorstep, encouraging children to discover that play really is here, there and everywhere!

Keep a look out for our children out and about today as they explore, play, learn and enjoy all that our local community has to offer.

Todays the day!

As part of the changes we are making to our outdoor play provision following training from My Nature Play, we are looking to give away our bikes and trikes to local families and members of the community.
All items are second-hand and have been in storage while we have been developing a new ethos for outdoor play.
We also have a selection of books left over from the Dundee Play Festival that we would love to pass on.
We will place everything in the front area of the nursery, so please feel free to come along and help yourself. All items will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Thank you, and we hope these resources can be enjoyed by others in our community.
