Today, Cooper Gallery, Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design opens its doors for "Jamming The Ignorant Art School" - an exhibition that brings together the ideas, tactics and strategies from "The Ignorant Art School: Five Sit-ins Towards Creative Emancipation", Cooper Gallery’s landmark five-year programme of exhibitions, events and collective enquiry.

"Jamming The Ignorant Art School" features work by Sam Ainsley with Anne-Marie Copestake, Anne Bean, Sutapa Biswas, Sheba Chhachhi, Ruth Ewan, Tari Ito, Audre Lorde, Annabel Nicolson, The Otolith Group, Old Boys Network, Monica Ross and Georgina Starr, alongside archival and ephemeral material from Edinburgh Arts, Haven for Artists, The Hackney Flashers, Gudskul, OutRage!, Rooftop Institute, The Hedgeschool Project, Greenham Common Women’s Peace Camp, the 1968 Hornsey Sit-in and Womanifesto.

What's more, throughout the exhibition, a series of Jamming Days will feature participatory performances, screenings, readings, workshops and collective discussion:

A cold start this morning, but lovely to see the low October sun lighting up the our studios.☀️

As the days start to shorten, we love seeing these spaces take on a new ambience, as glowing beacons of creativity all across DJCAD.

Almost a month into Semester 1, and the studios are already filling up with exciting work. To all our new students, we hope you are settling in, and enjoying all that Dundee has to offer.😀

As part of the RSA200 celebrations, DJCAD is taking a trip to the movies! 🎞️

On 6 October, for one night only, Dundee Contemporary Arts presents a special event showcasing films by RSA members, many of them former DJCAD students or staff.

Reflecting artists’ moving image practice in Scotland over the past 20 years, the event will feature films from the RSA Collection as well as new work being made today. ✨️

Excited to see Cooper Gallery on tour - again! 🚐

Today, "Bahar Noorizadeh: The Debtor’s Portal" opens at The Showroom, a leading UK visual arts organisation and fellow member of the Plus Tate network.

Originally produced and presented by earlier this year, "The Debtor’s Portal" brings the internationally recognised practice of Iranian-Canadian artist, filmmaker and theorist Bahar Noorizadeh to a new audience.

Co-curated by the Otolith Collective (), the exhibition showcases Noorizadeh's internationally recognised practice that fuses science fiction, political theory and global financial infrastructure with digital technology, experimental film and collaborative performance.

At The Showroom, "The Debtor’s Portal" is presented alongside a new commission by Noorizadeh, "In Mortua Manu / In A Dead Hand" - a mural that reimagines The Showroom's façade as a detective mystery video game set in the local neighbourhood, informed by local oral histories and memories gathered by the artist.

The exhibition is the second national touring project produced by Cooper Gallery this year, following "The Ignorant Art School: Outside the Circle", which toured to the GoldenThread Gallery in Belfast over the summer.

Together, these touring projects extend the reach and impact of Cooper Gallery’s research-led programme, bringing its curatorial and artistic research to new audiences and contributing to the national and international profile and reputation of the gallery’s programme.

Last week DJCAD hosted a public drawing workshop led by Sharon Campbell, to complement the exhibition, "Seeing / Being Seen" - a collection of drawings from staff, former students and life models, all with experience on both sides of the easel. ✏️

The event welcomed nearly 50 people, all keen to practice their skills and hear from the models themselves about the unique insights that life drawing (and modelling) can bring to one's creative practice.

During the workshop, the artists had the opportunity to practice drawing a range of clothed poses (and even posing themselves!). This included quick sketching for short one-minute posters, to longer, more detailed studies over fifteen minutes.⏱️

After the practical workshops, a short "Ask a Life Model" panel discussion enabled the artists to get to know who they had been drawing, and hear their motivations, inspirations and different perspectives on what it means to be someone's muse. 💭

Big thanks to the models Emma Doctor, Janine Douglas, Lola Knibb, Theresa Lynn and Dougie Paterson for giving up their time and sharing their insights! ❤️

Applications are now open for the 2027 Joseph Binder Award! ✏️

Launched in 1996 by designaustria, the award takes it's name from one of Austria's most outstanding graphic designers and illustrators, who subsequently revolutionized visual communication in the United States.

This year's theme is "Under Pressure", shining a light on the realities of a changing industry, while celebrating the best work in graphic design and illustration created over the past two years. 👏

A range of awards are up for grabs, as well as a cash prize of up to €6.000 in the Design Fiction category and the Henry Steiner Prize, awarded to an outstanding project that fosters dialogue between diverse cultural perspectives.

All selected work will also feature in the JBA catalogue and presented as part of a touring exhibition. ✨️

Stock up for the creative year ahead with everything you think you'll need - and maybe a few things that you didn't think you would! 🤔

From craft and making supplies, to tools, inks, drawing equipment and all possible permutations of paper, there's plenty to get your creative juices flowing, and help you realise whatever you are working on! 🎨

Project coming up? Grab what you need ahead of time, so you don't run out at a critical moment! 😰

Don't see what you need? Just ask - the team are happy to order things in.😃
