Linking sport to every area of the curriculum using practical and classroom-based lessons

Today I stepped out of the comfort zone and shared Sport ConnectEd with over 150 like-minded people at the Scottish Women In Sport conference in Hamilton, with a focus on innovation and technology.

It was an absolute honour to stand up and show the passion and reasoning behind the resource, and also to hear from other inspiring speakers throughout the day.

Thanks to Maureen from SWIS for having me, and a special mention to Alison Walker for putting me forward for this opportunity and for constantly believing in me, even when I struggle to believe myself 🙏🏻🫶🏻

It was great to meet so many lovely people during the networking lunch too, with some opportunities to collaborate hopefully on the horizon.

Our resource is a way to effortlessly get high-quality PE into every school, while providing teachers with lessons for every curricular area linked to the focus sport using books, novels and events.
A win for the pupils.
A win for the teachers.

Looking forward to exploring more opportunities in the coming months and seeing where this take us ☺️

Things have been really quiet of late due to personal circumstances, BUT I’m delighted to be working on this….

In a couple of weeks I’ll be standing up in a room of around 200 incredible women from the world of sport/business at the Scottish Women in Sport conference 🥰
Out of the comfort zone? Absolutely, but we know that that’s where a lot of the magic can happen 😉

I’m incredibly grateful to have this opportunity thanks to the lovely Alison Walker, and very much looking forward to sharing everything that Sport ConnectEd is about and the difference it can make, both in sport and education, with lots of examples and evidence from its use in schools so far.

I’ll be working on this all week - good to get stuck back into it again 🤓💻

Oh we do love a wee road trip, especially when you’re meeting the lovely at the end of it ☺️

A fantastic catch up today with some new opportunities on the horizon which I’m very grateful for, and it really means the world to have someone like Alison who believes in you and in what you’re doing - someone who knows what it’s like in sport, in business, and in general life (the good and the hard bits), and I’m very thankful to have her in my corner🙏🏻

Also great setting the world to rights too 😉🤣

Upper-stage primary teachers (P5-7) - this post is for you!!

Would you like a few FREE PE lessons for badminton?? Would you also like a few linked IDL lessons to do in the classroom alongside these PE lessons?? If so, read on….

We are offering a free sample trial of the first three of our badminton lessons to watch with your pupils and complete in the gym hall, including:
🏸 learning intentions,
🏸 warm up and key activities,
🏸 ideas for discussion, differentiation and extension.
These PE lessons are designed and demonstrated by a former international badminton player who is also a fully-qualified primary teacher.

Also included, are a few cross-curricular lesson suggestions to link learning across the curriculum, including ideas for literacy, numeracy, health and wellbeing, expressive arts, social subjects and technologies.

The full programme will be available soon, but I’m looking for teachers to try out the badminton resource and come back with feedback once the lessons have been carried out.

Early exposure for kids to high quality physical EDUCATION is crucial in their overall development and health.

This little guy was only 3 in February and look what he’s able to do….
• hand-eye coordination ✅
• movement and quick adjustment of feet ✅
• awareness of target ✅
• able to adjust according to where shuttle is ✅
• patience ✅
• building determination and resilience ✅
• increasing confidence and self esteem ✅

This is why Sport ConnectEd should be in every school with high quality lessons from internationalists, Olympic medalists and qualified teachers. Pupils will be exposed to high quality content which will aid in gross motor skills development and overall health, boosting the health of the nation and a fitter and more active generation who can see and experience the many benefits of sport and exercise.

We have tennis, badminton and athletics ready to go from January!

Remember this is only HALF of what Sport ConnectEd can bring - we also provide classroom learning packs linked to the focus sport through the use of a book/novel 📚

We had a brilliant day of starting filming our athletics content yesterday 🙌🏻🏃🏼‍♀️

The kids did a great job being put through their paces by - it was great to watch an expert at work, looks effortless in every demonstration ☺️

It was exciting to get the work gear on and get back out to talking to teachers who are embracing what Sport ConnectEd is and how it can impact the classroom and their practice 🙌🏻

I had a great meeting with Jill and Michael today at Thornton Primary School in Fife, and can’t wait to see how things go with their classes using two of our packs ☺️ What’s even better is that I actually trained as a primary teacher with Jill’s lovely mum, Judith, so to have Jill (who I remember being about 8yrs old 🫠) using it is amazing 🤩 To see teachers genuinely enthusiastic and excited about using the resource left me buzzing, and they just ‘get’ what it’s all about and everything it can bring to the pupils in their classes 🥹 I also saw another friend from uni who works at the school, the lovely Fi, so all in all it was a bloody great afternoon 🥰

Excited to get next term up and running with two fantastic teachers from Glebelands in Dundee also using our second level resources, and I’m also looking forward to another couple of meetings next week to set up trials of our early level packs 🙌🏻

‼️ Looking for a P1 teacher to trial one of our classroom learning packs based on one of these books, and in addition to the tennis PE lessons for early level.

Within each pack are lessons across the curriculum to link the gym hall to the classroom, and the PE lessons provide progressive and structured content, pre-recorded and accessed online with written lesson plans for the teacher too. Key teaching points are included, as well as ideas for differentiation, extension and discussion.

I’m looking for this to be done next term, so from October-December and the teacher must be willing to provide feedback and complete an evaluation, as well as sending some examples of the work completed in both the classroom and the gym hall.
