Central Scotland School of Jewellery

Central Scotland School of Jewellery Hello! Welcome to the Central Scotland School of Jewellery. We teach weekday and weekend jewellery classes for beginners, intermediate and advanced students

A comprehensive course covering all aspects of the art of jewellery making, suitable for both beginners and more experienced students who wish to refine their skills. The small class size enables each student to work on an individual sustained project throughout the term with assistance from highly skilled tutors to provide expert one-to-one tuition. All basic jewellery techniques are covered: pie

rcing, soldering and applying texture to the metal. In addition, a selection of more specialised processes such as sand casting, resin, keum-boo and fold forming are taught throughout the course, as students’ individual interests and project requirements emerge. All materials are included, with the exception of silver, which can be purchased at cost at the School. The course is structured so that each student will finish the term with a piece or collection of jewellery and having added to their knowledge of jewellery making. This course will be led by Jo Pudelko who runs a successful contemporary jewellery business, making her own silver and mix media pieces. Jo has many years experience teaching a wide range of jewellery techniques in further education.

Join Katie Watson for an exciting two-day workshop where you’ll gain an in-depth understanding of chasing and repoussé - an ancient technique used to create beautiful surface decoration, texture, and sculptural details. Think of the metal as your canvas, ready to be drawn on! These techniques can be applied to anything from small jewellery pieces to larger forms.

Day One:
Through demonstrations and discussions, you will start with the basics of chasing. You’ll learn how to transfer your design onto a copper sheet, mount your work in pitch, and use a variety of punches to create lines, marks, and textures.

Day Two:
Continue refining your piece from day one, or start something new under expert guidance. This is your time to develop your skills, experiment with the tools, and bring your ideas to life!

About Your Tutor:
Katie graduated from The Glasgow School of Art in 2018 and continued her creative journey with a post-graduate course at the prestigious Bishopsland Educational Trust.

LAST SPOT! - Join us for a two-day workshop exploring a more fluid, expressive approach to enamelling.

Working with pre-formed copper bowls, you’ll explore liquid enamel and using it to build colour, texture and surface through a painterly, intuitive process.
Unlike traditional powdered enamels, liquid enamel allows for a freer approach, with plenty of scope for layering, pattern, stencilling, mark-making and experimentation.

🎨 Day 1: Techniques & Exploration
Elizabeth will introduce liquid enamelling through demonstrations and examples, followed by a day of hands-on experimentation on copper sheet. Explore different application techniques, create test pieces and discover your own approach.

🔥 Day 2: Design & Make
Use your experiments and ideas to develop designs for your pre-formed copper bowls, then bring them to life using the techniques you’ve explored.

We have had lots of people asking if we will run this class again… and very sadly the answer is no!

This will be the last time you can learn from the very talented Jill Leventon who will be joining us to share her expertise and years of experience in both corrugation (also known as micro folding) and enamelling.

Corrugation allows you to use very thin metal to create strong yet lightweight sculptural forms. Join us this weekend 5th & 6th September to experiment with texture, folding, smocking, press forming and rolling metal. Then combine your samples with both transparent and opaque enamels, to perfectly highlight your textures.

Jenny has sent us over some new images for her upcoming Curved Scoring & Folding workshop! Designed for jewellers, silversmiths and contemporary metalworkers, this practical course teaches you how to transform flat sheet metal into expressive three-dimensional forms.

During this hands-on metal forming course, you will develop an understanding of how curved score folding techniques influence the direction and movement of metal and gain confidence using hammers and a rolling mill to create a curved line to fold along and create a collection of technical samples and experimental forms.

Jenny Deans is an award-winning designer and educator specialising in metalwork and jewellery. With decades of experience teaching creative and technical processes, she is known for making complex techniques accessible and for encouraging confident experimentation. Her work combines technical precision with expressive form, and she brings both clarity and enthusiasm to the workshop environment.

Student Feedback - “All the techniques had their own appeal and I could see how they could integrate into my jewellery journey.”
