Parent Council Meeting this evening JMC 7pm.

Parents and carers are all warmly invited to the Parent Council's first substantive meeting of the year next Monday, 5 October, at 7pm in John Muir Campus hall.

We hope to be able to share some updates from our new subcommittees, and there will also be an update from school on the new system for teaching writing which has been adopted this year, known as CYPIC. As ever, tea coffee and biscuits will be provided - all welcome!

We'd also like to say a huge thank you to everyone who attended last Friday's lovely community picnic at Lochend. The total raised was a fantastic £540.93, which will go towards staff training for the outdoor play pods and hi-vis vests for the P7 playground pals volunteers. We'd like to thank Ms Lusk for leading on Playground Improvements.

*STAGE CLUB is coming to DUNBAR PRIMARY!*
After a decade of bringing productions to Edinburgh's primary schools, Stage Club is coming to East Lothian, with Dunbar Primary being the 1st school to get the Stage Club experience. This is an exciting time to be part of the OG Dunbar Primary Stage Club cast - the first of many we are sure.

*What is Stage Club?*
Stage Club is a performance-based after-school club that aims to bring the arts to local schools. While remaining accessible and affordable, they also create professional productions and offer development opportunities to their cast members.

Each school will work on a FULL SCALE production that will include singing, dancing and acting—giving everyone a chance to shine on stage.

Everyone will get the chance to audition for a part, attend weekly rehearsals and work as part of a full company to create a show that will be performed on stage.

*When & Who Is It For?*
Starting at Dunbar Primary after the October holidays, sessions will run on Thursdays from afterschool until 5.00pm. Dunbar Stage Club is open to everyone in P5-P7.

*Is there a show?*
There definitely is a show: Peter fae the Pans. The classic tale is turned on its head with some local references, catchy songs and great costumes. Stage Club will take Dunbar Primary Stage Club to Haddington Corn Exchange to perform 2 shows on the big stage.

Community Picnic
Friday 25th September

Do we have any budding bakers out there? Would you be able on donate any baking towards our Community Picnic? If so please drop in donations to Lochend Campus on the day, being mindful that we are a nut/pineapple aware school. All containers must be named and can be picked up at the end of the day of from Lochend Campus office on Monday.

At our recent AGM, we did not have enough attendees to elect our new committee or make key decisions for the upcoming school year.

To support the Parent Council and our school through this really important period of change, we are hosting an EGM.

🗓️ DATE: Monday 7th September
⏰ TIME: 7:00 PM
📍 LOCATION: The Main Hall, John Muir Campus
☕ BONUS: Tea, coffee, and biscuits will be provided!

WE NEED YOUR HELP
We have several critical vacancies that we must fill to keep going:

✅ Treasurer
✅ Cove Representative
✅ Nursery Representative
✅ Class Representatives (multiple year groups)

We're delighted that Mr Gillies will also be attending.

Parent Councils are tasked under legislation with working with schools to raise standards of education, secure improvements in quality of education, and develop pupils to their fullest potential.

We have been working hard in the last few years to ensure that the families at Dunbar Primary School have more of a voice in these areas, as well as continuing the fundraising and community activities that might be more traditionally associated with a PTA.

But the Parent Council will really struggle to operate, fundraise, and advocate for our children without a complete team.

Whether you want to take on a role, represent your child’s year group, or just sit in the background and see what we do, your presence matters.
