SFA LEVEL 1.1 INTRODUCTION TO COACHING FOOTBALL | Calling all our young sports leaders! This course is fully funded by the Summer of Sport, spaces are limited.

Session 1: 9:45am -12pm (classroom workshop)
Session 2: 12:45pm – 2:30pm (practical content)
Minimum aged 16 years old to attend

What a busy first week we had at Active Campus! 🙌

A huge thank you to everyone who came along last week and got involved. It was brilliant to see so many students trying something new, getting active and making the most of what’s on offer.

💪 Thursday lunchtime – PureGym Circuit Class as part of Freshers Week
🏸 Wednesday afternoon – Badminton
🏓 Thursday afternoon – Pickleball

And of course, the gym is available throughout the week! 🏋️

Never tried any of these before? No problem. Whether you’re a regular, completely new to exercise, or just looking for something to do between classes, Active Campus is for you.

CASUAL COMMUNITY SPORTS COACH RECRUITMENT | The Active Schools and Community Sport Team are seeking to recruit additional qualified coaches to deliver within our Active Schools programme on a casual basis across different locations within our local authority. Working with the team to deliver sport and activity sessions as part of our programme.

We are looking for coaches that are enthusiastic and of a pleasant manner to coach a range of sports and activities including: badminton, netball, dance, cycling, rugby, racket sports, cricket, athletics and multi-sport sessions.

🎉 WELCOME BACK TO ACTIVE CAMPUS! 🎉

A huge welcome to all our new and returning students as we kick off another exciting year of Active Campus at Dumfries and Galloway College! 🙌

Our first Active Campus schedule of the year starts on Monday, with plenty of opportunities to get involved, meet new people and try something new. From football, basketball and badminton to pickleball, table tennis and multisports, there is something for everyone! 🏀⚽🏸🏓

💪 FREE COLLEGE GYM MEMBERSHIP
Students can join the college gym completely FREE of charge! The gym is staffed during opening hours by the Personal Trainers employed by UWS, who are there to support you. Simply scan one of the QR codes around the college to get signed up.

🏟️ WANT TO PLAY SOMETHING ELSE?
If there is a sport you would like to play in the sports hall on a particular day, just get in touch! We are always keen to hear what activities you would like to see on the timetable.

📢 WANT TO START A CLUB?
The sports hall is currently free after college on Monday and Tuesday evenings, so if you and a group of friends would like to start a club or organise your own activity, get in touch with us!

What a week! 🏓

What started as an idea to take pickleball into local communities turned into 6 sessions across Dumfries & Galloway — and we absolutely loved it!

From Annan and Gretna to Newton Stewart, Stranraer, Dumfries and Sanquhar, we had the chance to introduce more young people to pickleball, get active and have some fun along the way. 💙

A massive thank you to everyone who came along and took part, and to the venues and coaches who helped make the roadshow possible.

We were also delighted to donate 56 pickleball paddles and balls to participants, helping more young people continue playing beyond the sessions. 🏓

This project wouldn't have happened without the support of Scottish Student Sport through the Summer of Sport funding.

A brilliant week of sport, activity and community across D&G. ❤️

Here's to getting even more people active through sport!

🌟 Meet the team behind our 2026 Summer of Sport Pickleball Roadshow! 🏓

Over the summer, we were delighted to have students from Dumfries and Galloway College get involved in delivering our Pickleball Roadshow across Dumfries and Galloway.

For our students, it was more than just delivering sessions. It was an opportunity to gain real coaching experience, build confidence, develop their skills and inspire young people to get active and try something new.

We asked our three student coaches to reflect on their experience and what they took away from the roadshow. 👇

🏓 Summer of Sport | Pickleball Roadshow

A big thank you to Scottish Student Sport for funding Active Campus at Dumfries and Galloway College through the Summer of Sport programme.

Over the summer, we took pickleball across 6 areas of Dumfries & Galloway:

📍 Annan
📍 Gretna
📍 Newton Stewart
📍 Stranraer
📍 Dumfries
📍 Sanquhar

The roadshow gave children aged 8–16 the chance to try pickleball, learn the basics and have fun along the way.

Thanks to the funding, every participant received a pickleball paddle and ball to take home, allowing them to keep playing after the roadshow. We also provided healthy snacks and drinks during the sessions. 🏓

We were also able to employ students Karen, Nyasha and Kieran from our Sports department to help deliver the sessions. They did a great job creating safe, welcoming and enjoyable sessions for everyone who came along.

A special mention to our Sports Lecturer, Kevin Somerville, who played a key role in delivering the sessions, mentoring our students and ensuring that health and safety remained a priority throughout the roadshow. His support was hugely appreciated.

Thanks also to our HR, Finance and Student Experience teams for helping us get everything organised and delivered within a short timeframe.
