Jess & Ed - a pair of absolute dreamboats - had their wedding at Ed's family farm at Southwick and it was a totally rustic VIBE. They set their vows in stone by placing their hands on the ancient glacial erratic in the middle of the field. That stone has been there for millennia which blows my mind. So how lovely to include it in their marriage ceremony. It felt really special and made me feel a bit funny like when you think about the universe a bit too hard and you get a bit scared.
Congratulations to Jess and Ed! You're amazing ❤️

Thanks to my colleague for her support on the day, and to my current wife Les Ross for organising my PA system and OF COURSE to my pals Lauren and Laurence from Lauren 👋🏻 for the photography and the banter.

Hi, it’s me! Having a cup of tea at the caravan, which is obviously the best cup of tea. (Well I was there but I'm not now)

A little update:

Voice = 37% capacity
Frustration with voice = 120%
Frustration with people talking over me because I have no volume = 19,999,999%

I’m like Ariel from The Little Mermaid at this point. Ursula nicked her voice in exchange for giving her legs, and I understand why Ariel was so desperate to get it back. But I also understand Ursula's coveting of Ariel's voice.

Although, on reflection, who actually wants to be a human? It's overrated!

Some people are exceptionally good at their jobs.

Karen is one of those people.

She’s the dental receptionist at my amazing dentist in Lochmaben and I would trust her to run my entire life. In fact I would pay good money. Honestly.

But more importantly Karen asked me to be the celebrant for her marriage to Ian! And before you could say bilateral sagittal split osteotomy, we became friends. 

Which is one of the unexpected things about being a celebrant. You think you’re helping plan someone’s wedding ceremony and then boom you're friends. 

It happens all the time and it confirms my belief that everyone you meet enriches your life. 

AND I'm DELIGHTED that after 31 years, Karen and Ian are finally husband and wife! 

Thirty-one years.

That’s almost a geological period! . The Karenian-Ianocene period maybe 🕵️ 

And what made their wedding day so lovely was seeing them surrounded by the people who have been part of that story. What a way to start was a brilliant new chapter in a love story that's already been going for three decades. But hey some things are worth waiting for, amiright?

It's good to have a friend who reminds you every six months that you need to floss more  🦷 🪥 😷
And is it even a wedding if it doesn't feature Mike on the wheels of steel and Callum on pipes? Beautiful Torr House was never lovelier.

This just means I won't be accepting any NEW bookings for a while.

If you’ve already booked me, nothing changes. You’re safely in my diary, and I’m looking forward to everything ahead.

If you were planning to get in touch, I’m sorry to disappoint you. Keep an eye on my socials for updates on when enquiries reopen.

Reaching the point where I need to pause new enquiries is a pretty bloody good problem to have! But there are HUNNERS of other Celebrants out there who are just right for you!

Now, I’m off to practise the radical celebrant skill of saying no.

These pictures by the Cullens' family friend Chris Brown make my heart sing every time I look at them! A li'l throwback to Rockliffe Beach earlier this year for Louise and Andrew's handfasting and renewal of marriage vows/celebration of family with Harris and Indie who didn't get to experience the joy of mum and dad's wedding ceremony back in the day (when I had purple hair as I recall and a cardigan from which my bosoms burst forth) so this time they did most of the work! They made the handfasting ties, they ably assisted WITH the handfasting and they read a lovely poem! These occasions are one of my very favourites because they're always relaxed, organic and completely celebrate our human capacity to just have FUN ❤️🎉

Prithee lend me thine ear, for my left vocal cord hath downed tools and refuseth to pull its weight. 'Tis paralysed, forsooth, and shirking its sacred duty most grievously.

The learned physicians know not whether ye oldde nerve unto ye oldde paralysede cord was cutteth asunder by the surgeon's blade, or whether it hath simply flounced off in a huffe, as nerves are wont to do when displeased. Time, that most patient of jesters, shall tell.

Meanwhile, I ploughest on, doing what I CAN with my diminished vocal range, propped up most nobly by colleagues who lend me their aid and support. For verily, this is humanism in action: one human helping another human who hath temporarily misplaced half her voice.

So unless further calamity befalleth me, say, mine head departing my shoulders entirely, 'tis business as usual, so long as I remain fit enough for the task. Which, currently, I am.

I hope this bringeth thee comfort and cheer, good people. Fare thee well!

I don't know what's left to say about these guys that I haven't said already except that there are three of us in this marriage now 😂 They have been through every emotion with me, but thankfully mostly laughter and hunners of joy! I wish them all the very best and I want a shot in that DeLorean. Not that I'd get out of it again. You'd need a tin opener. Love you long time, Nelsons 💕💕💕
