I will be running a series of online masterclasses over the Easter holidays for GCSE Physics and Mathematics. Each masterclass will last for one hour and focus on one area.

The full timetable will be published in the next 2 weeks and the cost is £10 per student.

All classes will be over Zoom.

Unfortunately, I have no further capacity for tuition in the evenings. If you wish to join the waiting list for evening tuition from May 2023 then please do contact me.

If you are an A Level student and are able to attend online or face to face lessons from 9am to 3pm there is still some availability on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.

Some of you may be using ChatGPT to help you with homework or past paper questions. I have spent some time inputting questions and am surprised how many it got wrong!

I have no doubt this AI will improve as it learns at an incredible rate but this is just a warning to not trust it's responses implicitly at this stage.

These are the good habits of students who are successful in physics:

They clearly show every step in calculations.
They provide clear and well structured written answers.
They have a sound grasp of the basic knowledge and can apply it in unfamiliar contexts.

The above is worth considering if you are preparing for mock exams this month.

This is one of the most famous images in photographic history.

The first ever X-ray image was taken on this day in 1895 by Wilhelm Röntgen, awarded the first Nobel Prize in Physics, 1901.

The image of his wife Bertha's hand (wedding ring clearly visible) propelled Röntgen into an international celebrity. The medical implications were immediately realised. Röntgen named the discovery X-radiation, or X-rays, after the mathematical term 'X' which denotes something unknown.

I worked through this question on terminal velocity with one of my students and here is a video of the solution. We are finding that students are finding these follow-up videos useful for consolidating learning.

Here is the link to the video:

This video looks at how to explain why objects reach a terminal velocity when a parachute is opened. The use of free-body diagrams are essential in ensuring...
