In this episode of The Right Chamber, we sit down for an honest and insightful conversation with Dr Paul Hudson, Medical Director at The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust
We explore the realities of leading a modern NHS organisation during one of the most challenging periods in healthcare history.
From increasing operational pressures and emergency department demand to the emotional impact on frontline staff, this episode offers a candid look behind the scenes at what it takes to keep a hospital running safely and effectively. The discussion reflects on the difficult realities faced by NHS teams during periods of extreme pressure, including overcrowding, delayed patient flow, and the growing challenge of delivering high-quality care in an increasingly stretched system.
However, alongside these challenges comes a powerful message of resilience, pride, and optimism. The episode highlights the extraordinary efforts of NHS staff across all disciplines and explores how teamwork, leadership, and innovation continue to drive patient care forward, even in the most demanding circumstances.

It was fantastic to see such a strong and diverse contribution from the team at the Birmingham Education for Health Professionals Conference at School of Medical Sciences, University of Birmingham yesterday.
The breadth of projects on display reflected a real commitment to innovation, collaboration and practical improvement across undergraduate medical education, simulation, digital learning and communication. Presentations spanned oral and e-poster formats, showcasing work from clinical teaching fellows, simulation faculty and the RGUC Digital Media Team.

Collectively, the presentations highlighted how modern medical education increasingly blends simulation, gamification, digital learning and narrative approaches to support both technical and non-technical skills development. It was also encouraging to see projects focused not only on clinical competence, but also communication, confidence, wellbeing and the wider healthcare system experience.
A huge congratulations to everyone involved in presenting and supporting these projects. The quality, enthusiasm and innovation on display were a real credit to the team and demonstrated the growing impact of collaborative educational work taking place across the organisation.

What does corporate governance in the NHS actually mean, and how does it impact patient care?
In this episode of The Right Chamber, Helen Board and Daniel Conway take us inside the often unseen world of NHS governance, accountability and decision-making. From regulation and compliance to transparency and public trust, the conversation explores how Trust boards support safe, effective healthcare behind the scenes.

Jenny shares her honest OSCE story. Walking out of a station convinced she’d failed… only to find out she hadn’t.
If you’ve ever replayed an OSCE in your head thinking “I’ve messed that up”, this one’s for you.
What feels disastrous in the moment doesn’t always reflect reality.
✨ Your perception isn’t always your performance.
✨ One station doesn’t define you.

For many patients, this is what hospital feels like; unfamiliar, disorientating, and completely out of their control. Behind every trolley journey is a person navigating fear, vulnerability, and hope. A moment where trust in strangers becomes essential. Healthcare isn’t just about procedures and pathways. It’s about recognising how it feels to be on this side of the wheels.
