Our Year 2 children launched their History topic yesterday with a visit from Freshwater Theatre Company! They learnt all about the Great Fire of London and enjoyed lots of activities! The children were full of excitement and enjoyed sharing the facts they had learnt with the adults in school.

Yesterday, our Year 5 and Year 6 children had the pleasure of meeting local author, Helen Dale. She shared some chapters from her newest book, The Stillness Tree and the children were able to ask questions about what it is like to be an author.

Helping every child read with confidence

As children move on from their phonics reading scheme, we use ZPD ranges to help them choose books that are appropriately challenging and enjoyable.

A short STAR Reading assessment helps identify each child’s ZPD (Zone of Proximal Development) – the range of books that should provide just the right level of challenge. This helps children develop fluency, vocabulary, comprehension and, most importantly, confidence as independent readers.
