A delicious bake sale organised by an awesome group of Prefects today. Everyone looking super smart as well! The group raised about £170 to go towards funding dances and leaver's meals (as far in the future as that may seem).

Congratulations to Calladh, Lucy and Thomas (2R2) and Gracie, Ava, Indy and Lily (2R1) for picking up the prizes in the English department ‘Deserted House’ competition.

Pupils studied the poem by Mary Coleridge before recreating their artistic impression of the house in the poem, demonstrating recall and understanding of the text by annotating their drawings with key quotations.

Recall from memory and annotation are key study skills pupils use in English to prepare for senior phase exams, so it’s great to see our S2 off to a good start. Thanks to our judges from S4, S5 and S6 for helping to pick out the best efforts from a very strong group.

Our S2s now turn their attention to persuasive language skills as they prepare class presentations and then build up to the Great Christmas Debate in December.

Tuesdays are also a time for S2 to visit the school library during their English lesson to renew, return or choose new books. This forms their key homework target of personal reading to be recorded on their Power Readers record.

Mr Ross and Mr Bennie have loved the enthusiasm and confidence our S2s have brought to the new term. Keep up the great work!

A fantastic experience for our Higher Biology pupils today, who took part in a PCR masterclass with scientists from the University of Edinburgh. Using their own DNA, they explored why some people can taste certain bitter flavours more strongly than others, while gaining valuable hands-on experience of laboratory techniques.

Great assembly this morning, largely spent celebrating the achievements of many of our pupils outwith school. We thought it would be nice to share with the wider community, so have attached here.

It was also a great moment to present our newly minted batch of Bus Monitors with their badges in front of their peers. These are pupils chosen for the leadership potential and this gives them a chance to develop their leadership skills, hone their sense of responsibility and continue to grow their feelings of community spirit.

Tomorrow morning there is an assembly for all BGE pupils in the first half of period 1 and for all senior pupils in the second half.

But even more exciting (if you can believe it) is that the S6 Prefects will be holding a bake sale next Wednesday. Please come in that day with a fistful of coins and an appetite for cakes - half the money raised will be going towards the funds for the Christmas Dance.

Thanks to the generosity of our pupils we managed to raise £83.05 this morning for the charity Mikeysline with our first Dress Down Friday of this school year.

Next Dress Down Friday will be 25th Sep. - we'll be collecting for a charity on this date too.

This post is purely to inform you of an orienteering event taking place within our community.
Iain Harding is helping Inverness orienteering club to organise an event at Guisachan near Tomich on Sunday 6 September.
