Mini Explorers Preschool Leavers 2026!

We have been busy celebrating our Preschool Leavers, last week we enjoyed a fantastic trip to Time to Grow Home Ed Farm. The children had a great time meeting, feeding, and caring for the animals. Thank you!☺️

We are so proud of everything our Mini Explorers have achieved during their time with us. We wish each and every one of them the very best of luck as they begin their next exciting adventure at school.

Continuing our 30 Days Wild adventure this week, we have been hunting for bugs in different habitats!

We visited grassland, woodland, and wetland environments and discovered a diverse range of bugs.

Using magnifying glasses, binoculars, and our investigation pots, we carefully observed and identified the creatures we found. We used our existing knowledge to recognise familiar bugs, learned about new species, and added exciting discoveries to our growing bug bank!🐞🐛🐜🐝🌿🦋

This morning we have started of our healthy eating week by going to forage elderflower to make elder flower fritters!

“I think it’s going to taste like coconut”

“I think it’s going to taste like strawberries”

The children helped to pick, wash and dip before cooking them!

Why is elderflower good for us?

•Elderflowers contain antioxidants that help keep our bodies healthy
•They have been traditionally used to help with colds and coughs
•They can support the immune system
•They are a natural, seasonal food that grows in the countryside

We learnt that the flowers were also known as Umbels “a group of flowers that grow closely together in the shape of an umbrella!” ☂️

The children commented “yummy” and “delicious” as they ate all of them up!

This morning, we listened to our daily poem "Worm Words". We explored the meaning of the words in the poem and learned the definition of "daft", using it in our own sentences.

The mathematical language "big" and "little" inspired us to measure our big and little dandelion leaves growing in our environment. We worked together, holding the tape measure and counting the numbers. As we measured, we used mathematical language such as "biggest," "longest," and "shortest."

Later, one of our friends found a worm, which we were excited to measure using our worm measurer!

Today we have been out in our local community and have visited The Lido Park in Droitwich to continue Week 1 of our 30 Days Wild.

On our way, we spotted bumblebees, talked about how canal boats travel through locks, practised recognising numbers, and explored the different types of flowers we could see.

When we arrived at the park, the park keeper was excited to show us an unusual bug he had found, a type of centipede! We had fun identifying it together and learning more about it.

We then made our way through the park to visit the ducks, feeding them the sweetcorn we had brought along. We were excited to spot a very speedy duckling.

During our adventure, we discovered some free jam jars outside the cafe. We helped ourselves to a few and turned them into nature treasure pots for collecting our special finds.

Of course, no visit to Lido Park would be complete without a splash in the water!
