The road end (skerne road) is currently partially open with traffic control in place.

Please be aware of this for next week.

Northern Gas Networks has told the Wolds Weekly that Skerne Road in Driffield will be closed to all traffic until next Wednesday whilst repairs continue on a gas escape.

The junction with Beverley Road was closed throughout Thursday as engineers from Yorkshire Water repaired the road surface following burst water pipe, with the leak causing damage to carriageway.

The road had been expected to reopen at 5pm on Thursday, only for Yorkshire Water's engineers to be replaced by those from Northern Gas Networks amid reports of a gas leak.

Skerne Road has remained closed throughout Friday and it appears likely this will remain the case until Wednesday when Northern Gas Networks expects the repairs to be completed.

In a statement issued to the Wolds Weekly, Chris Keith, operations manager, said that the team at the scene will be working extended hours to ensure the repairs are completed on time.

“I can confirm that we are dealing with a gas escape affecting Skern Road," said Mr Keith.

"A recent camera search has identified where the problem has arisen and we are working extremely hard to remedy the situation with safety as a priority.

"I have a team present managing the works and I have been working at the site and can assure the community we are working extended hours to get everything fixed.

"We aim to have the repairs completed by Wednesday next week.

“Apologies for the inconvenience causes, unfortunately incidents do occur, but we are always quick to respond and make the area safe for the public.”

A diversion is in place for traffic affected by the closure, whilst access remains open for pedestrians.

There is currently no disruption to trains running along the Hull to Scarborough line.

Please note the end of skerne road is closed…. You can still walk through but closed to cars due to the pot holes that were ‘fixed’ and where broken again within the hour !
