Downpatrick Primary School Official page for Downpatrick Primary School There is ample space in the grounds, with extensive grass and tarmac areas.

The school was opened in 1975 and is situated at the upper end of Mount Crescent in the historic quarter of Downpatrick, near the Cathedral, Down Museum and St Patrick’s Heritage Centre overlooking the Quoile River and the Dromara Hills. The majority of the children come from Downpatrick, but the school also serves outlying districts and traditionally accepts children from a wide area and from all backgrounds. The Board of Governors is committed to cater for areas where there is no Controlled school provision such as Ardglass and Strangford. The accommodation comprises 7 classrooms, three small group rooms, a library and ICT suite, multi-purpose hall, meals kitchen and ancillary block. There is also a Special Unit for children with Moderate Learning Difficulties which comprises 3 classrooms catering for up to 30 children who integrate with the main school for practical subjects.

A huge well done to this week’s Down Dynamo winners from across the school.

Our current focus is on Respect and Honour — showing kindness, listening to others, treating people fairly, taking pride in ourselves and making choices that reflect the values of Downpatrick PS.

These pupils have stood out through the way they have treated others and the example they have set in their classrooms and around school.

💚 Big conversations. Important messages. Confident voices! 🗣️

On Friday 8th October, we were delighted to welcome Trish from the NSPCC to Downpatrick Primary School to deliver their Speak Out. Stay Safe programme to our P3, P6 and P7 pupils.

The sessions helped children understand the importance of staying safe, speaking up about worries and knowing who they can turn to for help.

Trish was particularly impressed by the children’s thoughtful contributions, excellent discussions and understanding of such important messages. 👏

We are incredibly proud of the way our pupils listened, asked questions and shared their ideas.

A huge thank you to Trish and the NSPCC for helping us reinforce such an important part of our children’s learning and wellbeing.

Every child deserves to feel safe, to be heard and to know that their voice matters.

⭐ Respect in action! ⭐

A huge well done to our Down Dynamo pupils of the week, recognised across every class on Wednesday 7th October.

Our October focus is Respect, and these pupils have stood out for the way they treat others, listen carefully, show kindness, look after their environment and help make their classrooms positive places to learn.

Respect is often shown through the small choices we make every day — and our latest Down Dynamos are setting a brilliant example.

🦋🎨 From first layers to finished butterflies!

This week at Colouring Pencil Club, the children completed their beautiful butterfly pictures and learned how to build up layers of colour before carefully blending them together.

It was a great lesson in patience, technique and attention to detail — watching the artwork gradually become richer and more vibrant with every layer.

The children were rightly proud of the finished results. 🌟

🚓🚸 Learning how to stay safe — from the people who help keep our community safe every day.

We were delighted to welcome the PSNI Downpatrick Neighbourhood Policing Team to Downpatrick Primary School today.

Our P1 and P2 pupils explored some really important road safety messages, including:

🌟 wearing bright colours so they can be seen
🚗 always wearing a seatbelt
🚸 crossing roads safely and carefully

The officers also spoke to the children about their wider role in helping people, keeping Downpatrick safe and supporting our local community.

A huge thank you to the team for such an informative and engaging visit.

☀️👟 What a morning for our Splash & Dash on Thurs 8th October 2026

Our pupils had a brilliant time taking part in this year’s sponsored walk around the Mound of Down, and the sunshine made it even better.

There were plenty of smiles, great energy and lots of encouragement along the way as the children enjoyed being outdoors together and taking part in one of our big PTA fundraising events.

A huge thank you to our PTA helpers for supporting the event and for the very welcome juice and crisps waiting at the finish line!

Now the walking is done, it’s time to start sending in the sponsorship money…

🎟️ Every £25 raised = a Golden Ticket + Homework Pass
📱 Golden Ticket draw: Samsung Galaxy Tab
🧱 Plus FOUR LEGO kits to be won
🛴 Top fundraiser wins a trick scooter

Every pound raised will go back into supporting opportunities and experiences for the children of Downpatrick Primary School.

Well done to everyone who took part — a fantastic morning, a great team effort, and now let’s see how much we can raise together! 🌟
