St Brigid’s Primary School, which is situated in pleasant rural surroundings on the
outskirts of Downpatrick beside St Brigid’s Church, was opened in 1968. The school is co-educational with enrolment and admission numbers of 266 and 38 respectively and a teaching staff of 11. The school aims to develop the academic, personal, social and spiritual potential of
each child in a caring, Christian at

mosphere. Pupils are given the opportunity to become involved in a number of after school activities such as football, netball, short tennis, bowls, golf, Irish, ICT, Art and Dance. Educational visits, are organised periodically to support the learning experience. The Cross Community Contact Scheme is an important element of school life and we fully support the concepts of mutual understanding, tolerance and co-operation. To this end we have established links with a controlled primary school and the P7 class is currently involved in a number of joint educational projects. Selected children receive tuition in woodwind, violin, viola and double base from the SEELB Instrumental Teaching Service; the school choir is very active
throughout the year and the school has an annual presentation as part of the Christmas celebrations. All pupils are encouraged to take part in fund
raising for local and Third World charities. Accommodation comprises 10 classrooms,
resource room, a well-stocked central library, gymnasium, medical room, Principal’s and Secretary’s offices. There is a large car park, 2 hard surfaced playgrounds and a large wooded grass area with an outdoor play area. The school is well equipped for the delivery of the
revised curriculum in all subjects. Parents are encouraged to visit the school to discuss their child’s progress and a number of parent-teacher meetings are held each year. There is an active and enthusiastic Parent’s Association, which organises a number of fund-raising and social events during the year.

Does your child have a special dietary requirement? Have you notified your child’s school about it?

Special diet applications should be completed when the diet is:
◾ medically prescribed eg food allergies
◾ religious or cultural reasons
◾ vegetarian or vegan

Parents/guardians/caregivers have a crucial role in providing these details to their child’s school. All special diets must be notified to the school using our Guidance for the provision of Special Diets in schools form. This form should be submitted when your child joins a school and/or starts taking school meals, or when your child is diagnosed with a medical condition or allergy/intolerance requiring an adjustment to their diet or how the food is served.

📩 Download the form: https://ow.ly/sxXt50ZFcNG

Upon receipt of the completed form for medically required diets, your school will contact you and facilitate a meeting with you, the school and the school’s catering manager. The arrangements for provision of your child’s meals will be discussed and agreed ahead of the special diet being provided.

If you haven’t previously submitted a completed application, and your child needs a special diet, you need to apply now.
