Midsommer Night’s Challenges
Safeguarding and entertaining children during their hotel-stay is sometimes challenging.
Most of the children are thrilled by the fact that their normal daily routines are loosened a bit.
They are discovering new friends, they may explore the opportunities, have some extra fun and entertainment – this is all exciting for most of them, especially if they are extroverted and curious, and not frightened from the unknown.
Event nannies are aware that not all children are the same. We are all different, so children can be different.
Some are shy or less thrilled to mix with other children, so every child needs a different approach.
What can be the most challenging situations?
My experience shows that communication with the parents is key.
As early as possible, to be as proactive as possible. To be prepared for the challenges.
Breastfed child? We have to know what the expected feeding times are, and having extra milk expressed in a bottle can be crucial.
The worst thing that can happen, that the parents are so happy and relieved to join the party that they leave the child to believe that the army of nannies will entertain and comfort their poor hungry child, while they can finish their great food in the restaurant.
Unfortunately, nannies can be the best, but they cannot breastfeed babies.
It is sad to see that the role of the nanny is misunderstood sometimes.
Another challenge can occur if the otherwise immersed teenager, who obviously enjoyed every minute of the late night stay with table soccer, virtual reality games and driving simulator and had fun and jokes with the nannies, loudly bawling his eyes out at the reception at midnight, just because his parents came bit late to pick him up.
Communication is key, we are not there just to assure children that they are safe, but we have to reassure parents in case it is necessary.
Nannies must be funny, entertaining but their proactive communication is key.
