Talking to a pupil about their wellbeing can feel daunting, but staff don’t need to be specialists to make a meaningful difference. This guide explores how warm, trusting relationships and a safe environment can help pupils feel able to share their worries, alongside practical considerations such as choosing an appropriate place and making conversations feel less intense.

The guide also explains how to approach confidentiality honestly, respond calmly when a pupil discloses something concerning and involve them appropriately in what happens next. With practical conversation starters and reminders about seeking safeguarding and personal support, it offers educators clear, reassuring guidance for listening carefully and helping pupils feel heard.

What a fantastic few weeks it has been welcoming prospective families to St Edmund's Catholic School.

Following our successful Open Evening and Open Morning events, we would like to thank everyone who took the time to visit us and experience life at St Edmund's.

We are incredibly proud of our student tour guides, who represented the school with enthusiasm, confidence and pride throughout the events. They were outstanding ambassadors for our school community.

Parents and carers of Year 11 students are invited to book appointments for our Virtual Subject Consultation Evening, taking place on Wednesday 7th October 2026 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm.

This is a valuable opportunity to meet with subject teachers via video call to discuss your child's progress, achievements and preparations for their GCSE examinations.

Looksmaxxing encourages people – particularly young men – to 'improve their appearance' through everything from grooming, skincare and exercise to far more questionable techniques. As this trend becomes increasingly visible on social media, our guide explores how appearance-focused content can affect boys’ confidence, self-worth and body image, while exposing them to misleading or potentially dangerous advice.

The guide also examines how looksmaxxing content can become increasingly extreme, with links to obsessive behaviours, mental health difficulties and harmful online communities. It offers practical advice for parents and educators on spotting changes in behaviour, recognising looksmaxxing terminology, understanding what young people may be seeing online and opening supportive conversations about appearance, influencers and unrealistic expectations.

This is a significant achievement and means that every area inspected met or exceeded Ofsted's expected standards. The report reflects the dedication, commitment and hard work of our staff, pupils, governors and families in creating a school where every child can thrive.
🏆 Strong Standard for Inclusion Under Ofsted's new report card framework, St Edmund's was awarded a Strong Standard for Inclusion, recognising that our leaders are working above the level expected to ensure barriers are removed and opportunities are created for every pupil.
