The schools motto, appropriately is Fiat Lux, meaning “Let there be light”. In 2018-19 the Headteach

Our Fiat Lux Day photos continue, with spray painted t-shirts from our Art students and some geometric creations from the Maths department.

The day was thoroughly enjoyed across the school, with one student saying: 'Fiat Lux Day is an important element of our school year as it allows us to explore different topics and see the fun things that you can do in that subject.'

DGSB's Fiat Lux Day, which took place on Friday, provided students with the opportunity to immerse themselves in a single subject through a range of engaging off-curricular activities.

The day encouraged curiosity, creativity and collaboration, allowing students to explore their chosen subject beyond the classroom and gain new skills and experiences.

Through hands-on learning and enrichment opportunities, students developed a deeper understanding of their subject while enjoying a memorable and inspiring day of learning.

We will be showing off some of the work created this week. In this post, you can see some Bug Hotels and Eco Lodges made in Geography and Gardening Club.

A huge well done to Ted A., Kaemon G., Leon W., Nico S. and Davis Z. in Year 9, who recently attended three Mathematics
Masterclasses with the Royal Institution at the University of Kent!

They explored exciting maths beyond the classroom, including probability, fractals, topology and game theory, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

We’re so proud of the way they represented the school and embraced this fantastic opportunity!

We are proud to celebrate the excellent achievements of our students in this year’s UKMT Junior Mathematical Challenge.

Our students earned an impressive total of 39 certificates, including 7 Gold, 14 Silver, and 18 Bronze awards. This is a fantastic accomplishment and reflects the hard work, enthusiasm, and problem-solving skills of all who took part. Congratulations to every participant on their success.

We are especially pleased to recognise five students who have been invited to take part in the prestigious follow-on competition: George F (Year 7), and Thomas H, Zac S, Finley P, and Ashley M (Year 8). This is a remarkable achievement, and we wish them the very best of luck in the next stage.

Well done to all involved!

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Dover Town Council for their very generous £500 funding to support our school garden. The funding has enabled us to purchase essential gardening tools, vegetable plants and compost, helping us to develop the space into a productive and welcoming environment for learning.

A growing club of enthusiastic students now helps to care for the garden, taking part in planting, watering and maintaining the raised beds. The project is already having a positive impact, giving pupils hands‑on experience and encouraging teamwork, responsibility and a love of the outdoors. We have a selection of vegetables and bee friendly flowers in our garden, including peas, broad beans, tomatoes, lavender and marigolds.

We are extremely grateful to Dover Town Council for making this possible.
