You understand Spanish.
But the second you have to speak, your brain disappears.
It's not your level. It's the pressure.
The good news? Locals have “limbo” moments too. They have phrases for it. And now so do you.
Save this for the next time it happens. It will happen. But this time, you'll be ready.

SIGNS YOU OFFICIALLY SPEAK “REAL” SPANISH 🇪🇸✨
And you don’t sound like a textbook or a “guiri” anymore…
Here are 6 natives expressions, and when to use them:
«¿Dónde es la quedada?»
🇬🇧 So, where are we meeting, then?
Use it when you already agreed to meet but you have no idea where. Super natural for plans with friends, or coworkers.
«Tía, no seas pesada»
🇬🇧 Girl, stop being so annoying!
Use it with someone you’re close to (friend, partner, sister) when they’re insisting too much, overdoing it, or repeating the same thing. It’s playful, a bit dramatic, and very Spanish energy.
«Bueno, chapurreo el español»
🇬🇧 Well, I fumble through Spanish.
Use it when someone compliments your Spanish and you want to be modest but still sound adorably local.
«No entiendo ni papa»
🇬🇧 I didn't get a word!
Use it when your brain goes on strike mid-conversation because people are speaking way too fast.
«¿Nos echamos un café mañana?»
🇬🇧 Shall we grab a coffee tomorrow?
Use it when you want to sound friendly and natural suggesting a meet-up.
«Me meo contigo»
🇬🇧 You’re cracking ne up
Use it when someone is really funny and you want to react like a native.
This is how you stop sounding awkward or “unnatural”.
Using the little expressions natives actually say so you feel more engaged, more playful and more connected to the culture.
So… next time you meet with Spanish speakers...“ya sabes qué decir, tía” 😉

Curious. Strategic. Community-focused.
As a Spanish teacher for expats and long-term travelers, I believe language is more than grammar.
It’s how we integrate.
It’s how we respect local culture.
It’s how we contribute to the communities we choose to live in.
Living abroad isn’t just about lifestyle.
It’s about impact.
What’s your Chinese zodiac animal , and how does it show up in your life abroad?

When my learners share their experiences, I realise how important is to actually understand the whys of
learning a language...
Do not forget your dream life abroad,
the culture and the people you want to meet.
The community you want to be part of
We often forget, we're already living,
what were dreams once💜🇪🇸

If you're a couple living in (or planning to move to) Spain, and one of you is tired of being "the translator" while the other feels left behind...
This Valentine's Day, give yourselves Spanish lessons together.
Not generic group classes where you're learning alongside strangers.
But couples coaching designed around YOUR shared life in Spain.
→ The conversations YOU both need to have (school, neighbours, logistics, social life, babysitting)
→ Both of you learning at your own pace
→ Support for BOTH of you to feel confident and capable
→ Spanish as a tool for partnership and family bonding
Whatever the plan, you deserve to experience it together.
Not one person navigating while the other watches.
Not one person feeling capable while the other feels invisible.
This Valentine's Day, skip the roses.
Invest in the life you came here to build.
Juntos. 💛🇪🇸

This is what people don't understand about language learning:
It's not one-size-fits-all.
It's not about memorizing verb conjugations or completing Duolingo lessons.
It's deeply personal.
The Spanish a 14-year-old needs for school is NOT the same Spanish a yoga teacher needs for business meetings.
The Spanish a couple needs for integrating in Tenerife is NOT the same Spanish a refugee needs for university.
The Spanish an Icelandic man needs for family gatherings is NOT the same Spanish Australian travelers need for their next trip.
**That's why generic classes don't work.**
That's why apps feel pointless after a while.
That's why so many people "study Spanish for years" and still can't have a real conversation.
Because they were never learning Spanish for THEIR life.
They were learning Spanish for someone else's textbook. 📚❌
---
My coaching is different.
I don't teach generic Spanish.
I coach real-life Spanish designed around YOUR life, YOUR goals, YOUR reasons.
Whether you're:
→ Building a business in Madrid 🇬🇧
→ Preparing for university in Chile 🇵🇸
→ Integrating in Tenerife 🇩🇰
→ Navigating school in Gran Canaria 🇺🇸
→ Connecting with family heritage 🇬🇧
→ Planning your next big trip 🇦🇺
→ Or something completely different...
I design your Spanish around YOUR life.
Not someone else's.
Yours. 💛
---
So here's my question for you:
**What's YOUR reason?**
Why do YOU want to learn Spanish?
Not what you think you "should" say.
Your real reason.
The one that makes you feel excited, nervous, or maybe a little embarrassed to admit.
Because that reason? That's where we start.
That's what we build your coaching around.
That's what makes it finally stick. 🇪🇸

If you've been in Spain for months (or years) and still panic when you need to speak Spanish... this carousel is your permission slip to finally change that. 👆🏿
I see this pattern all the time:
Expat women who genuinely want to integrate, who care about their community, who've tried Duolingo and classes and "immersion", but still can't hold a 10-minute conversation at the school gate.
It's not your age.
It's not your accent.
It's not because "you're bad at languages."
You've just been learning Spanish for exams and apps...not for real life.
That's what I fix.
My 1:1 coaching is designed around YOUR life in Spain. The conversations you actually need to have. The confidence you actually want to feel.
From frozen → fluent in the situations that matter.
If you're ready to stop overthinking grammar and start sounding like yourself in Spanish, let's talk.

Living abroad doesn’t automatically make you open-minded or socially aware. Sometimes it just gives you more options to reinforce old power dynamics in a new setting. Your passport isn’t your character, and your income isn’t a shortcut to belonging. Wherever you live, approach your host community with a genuine sense of responsibility, not entitlement.

We talk a lot about the big parts of moving to Spain.
The goodbye dinners. The excitement. The “what have I done?” moment when you land and realise you’re starting from scratch.
But honestly? What trips most people up isn’t the big emotional stuff.
It’s the first Tuesday morning when you need to do something simple… and you can’t.
You’re standing in a phone shop trying to set up a SIM.
Or at the health centre trying to explain what’s wrong.
Or in your new building trying to be friendly with a neighbour.
And you suddenly realise: you moved your whole life here… without the language you need to live it.
I’ve seen this so many times with long-term travellers and slow expats. Not because they’re careless. Because it’s easy to think:
“I’ll learn once I’m there.”
“I know the basics.”
“I’ll get by with English at first.”
Then the questions start spiralling:
- How do I ask this without sounding blunt or rude?
- Why do people respond so fast when I *do* speak Spanish?
- How do I handle appointments, deliveries, complaints, neighbours… without freezing?
- How do I stop feeling like a tourist in my own life?
And here’s the part nobody says clearly enough:
Not learning Spanish "before" you move doesn’t just make admin harder. It keeps you outside the community, long after the novelty of Spain wears off.
The good news: you don’t need perfect grammar to feel local. You need the right high-frequency phrases for real situations—and the confidence to use them.
If you want support with that, my conversational program She’s so Spanish is designed for long-term travellers and slow expats who “know some Spanish” but don’t feel natural using it yet.
