GCSE Science and A-level Biology revision. I also support science teachers and leaders with CPD.

Spent the morning mapping out the GCSE revision sessions. All sessions will be based on a topic from the specification, and will cover common mistakes and exam technique. For the year 11 sessions I have a foundation and higher tier group so that exam questions are targeted to your final exam.

If you are interested in signing up to the sessions please comment below or feel free to send me a message and I can get you all signed up.

Starting September 7th, I’ll be running two revision groups for AQA Combined Science
These sessions are for Year 10 students who need extra support with the new content and Year 11 students who want to consolidate their knowledge across the two years and hone their exam technique.

Monday nights are for Year 10 students and Wednesday nights are for Year 11 students.

This question from an AQA biology GCSE paper asks students to apply what they know about digestion in the small intestine to an unfamiliar scenario.
Only a third of students who sat this question managed to achieve full marks, with many losing out because they only answered the first half about why digesting food was difficult and didn't add anything about why this would lead to difficulty gaining body mass.

Understanding how to interpret these application questions is something that I will be doing in my GCSE revision groups. Feel free to send me a message if you want more information.

In September I will be running two revision groups for the A-Level OCR Biology A course.
Tuesday nights are suitable for year 12 students who want a bit of extra support with the new content being taught and Thursday is for year 13 students (or Year 14 resit candidates) who need consolidation of year 12 and experience linking topics from across the two years to be able to answer some of the longer exam questions that come up.

Monday morning is admin time; lots of social media posts to make, recording some bits for YouTube and finishing my group lesson plans for the term.

This question was asked in the AQA Chemistry paper in 2024. Over half of all students who completed it didn't gain a single mark.
The question is testing students’ understanding of the reactivity series to be able to explain that copper is below hydrogen in the reactivity series, which means that it will not react with the acid.
The second part of the question asks students to recall the reactions of group 1 metals. Sodium is a highly reactive metal that catches fire in water, and in acid will get extremely hot and may even explode!

Exam questions are a really good way for students to revise content that they have learned in class and allow them to apply what they know in unfamiliar contexts.

I have a few 1 to 1 tuition spaces available for September, but I am also offering low cost revision groups for AQA combined science.
Feel free to get in touch if you are interested.

This time last year I was at the start of a 10 month world schooling journey with my family. We covered 7 countries in 10 months. During that time we had to make sure we were continuing to educate our 9 and 5 year old.
So much education came from the places we visited and the people we met, but we did still do more formal learning for some subjects.
If you are travelling and are looking for science support; whether you are trying to keep up with the UK curriculum or just looking for a more rounded science education I can definitely help.

And if 1 to 1 doesn’t work for you, I have a KS3 group running from September at 11:30am Tuesday mornings UK time which is 5:30pm in Thailand (where this video was taken!)

Feel free to comment below or message me for more information.
