Monday 25th June is the last day of term, so we are going on a language based treasure hunt around Reigate!

Anyone with English as a second language is welcome to join in - just £10 for an hour and a half (with a possibility of some treasure too!). Meet at Somers Hall, Slipshoe Street, Reigate, RH2 9HU at 11am.

A break-in at the English Class! No problem - we used the clues to practise making passive sentences. A half-eaten kit kat was discovered; a chair had been overturned; and a single glove had been dropped. But why had the priceless diamond necklace been left behind? Very mysterious......

Lessons start again next Monday (16th April), for all au pairs and anyone else speaking English as a second language. Places still available at the 9.30am and 11am lessons depending on your current English level, at Somers Hall, Slipshoe Street, Reigate, RH2 9HU.

Exercises, games, and discussions to help improve your English in a fun and relaxed atmosphere without the pressure of an exam-led syllabus.

This monday morning - everything you ever needed to know about......

No lesson tomorrow as it’s the half term holiday. So here’s a little English language puzzle to think about this week - let me have the answer when we meet on Monday 30th October.

“This is an unusual paragraph. I’m curious how quickly you can find out what is so unusual about it. It looks so plain you would think nothing was wrong with it. In fact, nothing is wrong with it! It is unusual though. Study it, and think about it, but you still may not find anything odd. But if you work at it a bit, you might find out. “

Clues:
If you translated the text into another language it would no longer be strange

There are no grammar mistakes in the paragraph

There are no punctuation mistakes in the paragraph

A native speaker would also find it difficult to spot what is unusual about the paragraph

There are no spelling mistakes in the paragraph

However, the strange thing about the text is connected to spelling

The words in the text are completely normal but the letters in the text are a little unusual.

Reigate classes are running as normal next Monday (October 16th). Lower level (B1) 9.30-11am, and higher level (B2+) 11-12.30pm at Somers Hall, Slipshoe Street, Reigate.

New students are always welcome. Let me know you're coming (Ros at [email protected]) and then just come along. The first lesson is free, then £10 pay-on-the-day after that.

So far this term we've looked at conditional sentences, making arrangements, past simple vs present perfect tense, passive and stative verbs, and phrases for job interviews. Every week is something different so why not come and have a try?
