Day Three - moving day! Well it has been a very busy, but very productive day, moving all our amazing resources into the new Reading Room.
A huge thank you to my helpers, Donna, Tracy, Julie, Mick, Rachael, Kimmie and of course little Hunter ( who was on hand to try out all the Reading room toys!). It is true what they say, many hands do make light work, and I couldn’t have done it without you all!
Just a few little touches to add when I return from holiday and then we are good to go!

Date for the diary - Monday 31st August 10am - 12pm - Reading Doctor Dorchester Open Morning. Myself, Rachael from The Reading Doctor Poole and Tracy from Above and Beyond Wellbeing will be on hand to show students and parents, past and present around the new space and welcome the local community to come and find out more about what we do. Day Two - Painting and decorating the shelving. Really pleased with the outcome. Thank you so much to Tracy Brooker, my friend, neighbour and owner of Above and Beyond Welling, for all her creative help today. We couldn’t have got it finished without your help. Also, as always, a massive thanks to my wonderful mum for all her help. Tomorrow is moving day and I have a small army on hand to move all my things across. I am so lucky to have so much support. 🖌️🪜🫟

Day One - furniture day. It is starting to take shape! A massive thank you to my wonderful student Lucas, his mum Kelly- Ann and her partner Matt for all their help putting furniture together today. I really could not have done it without you ( anyone who has ever witnessed me trying to assemble flat pack will know how true that is!). Also thank you to Audrey, John, Donna, Kate and Ronnie who all popped down to see how it was going and offer a helping hand. I am just so overwhelmed with all the kindness and support I am having to get my new space off the ground! 📦🔩🪛🪑

Exciting news! The Reading Doctor Dorchester is moving!

Today I picked up my keys to my new teaching space. I will still be located on Poundbury, but from September I will be teaching sessions from 37 Great Cranford Street ( just behind Queen Mothers Square). It is a total blank canvas at the moment but I have an army of friends, family, neighbours and students joining me over the next few days to help me transform the space. Watch out for updates over the next few days as it all begins to take shape. Exciting times ahead! 🔑📦🎉

Please note - All summer sessions will continue to take place in my current reading room. My new space will be ready from September.

Places for my summer holiday sessions are over half full now, so please get in touch if you have any questions, or if you would like to book into a session.

My aim is to support children who are struggling with emotional regulation and need help building confidence and resilience. Through a supportive, nurturing, child-centered approach, they can explore feelings and learn positive ways to regulate their emotions and build their self-esteem.

Well that is end of another wonderful academic year at The Reading Doctor Dorchester. I would like to thank all my pupils and their families for being absolutely amazing as always and wish them all a happy, safe and relaxing summer. For those of you booked in for summer sessions I look forward to seeing you over the next few weeks, for everyone else I look forward to seeing you in September! ‘Our daughter has complex special educational and learning needs and, last year when she was in Year 6, she began to really struggle in a mainstream school setting. During a difficult period when she was out of school and we were trying to get her into the specialist setting she needed, we found Emily.

Despite our daughter initially being nervous and unsure about coming, Emily was absolutely brilliant at helping her feel safe and supported. She was kind, patient and empathetic, and used teaching methods that our daughter could really engage with and have fun with.

Emily supported our family through a really difficult time, and we will always be so grateful to her. Even now that our daughter is happily settled in her new SEN school, we continue to visit Emily — and now our son does too — because she really is just brilliant at what she does! Highly recommend ❤️’

Review - July 2026

‘We've been taking our 9-year-old daughter to sessions with Emily for the past year. We initially sought Emily's help because our daughter was noticeably behind her peers. She was reluctant to read, struggled with every aspect of reading and writing, and regularly mixed up sounds.

A little while after starting with Emily, our daughter received a formal dyslexia assessment from Sound Thinking Ltd, and we shared the results with Emily. She has supported our daughter throughout, adapting her teaching to her needs while continuing to encourage her confidence and enjoyment of learning.

Emily has created a calm, welcoming environment where children feel comfortable. Every session is one-to-one and tailored specifically to your child's progress. She uses a variety of activities throughout each lesson, which keeps sessions engaging and stops children from becoming bored or reluctant to attend.

In the year our daughter has been with Emily, she has made incredible progress. Her school has noticed a significant improvement across the board, and she can now read and write with confidence. Emily has genuinely changed her life. Our daughter has made around 18 months' progress in just one year, and we plan to keep her with Emily for as long as we can.

Emily has also been very accommodating in finding us extra sessions when we've needed them. Her communication is excellent, and her rates are very fair considering the level of individual support she provides.

If your child is struggling, I honestly think it will be one of the best decisions you can make for your child's future.’

This week The Reading Doctor Dorchester turns 5 years old! I cannot believe that it was 5 years ago I took the leap and left everything I knew to start my own business. The last five years have flown by and I have never looked back! I absolutely love what I do and feel so privileged to work with amazing young people and their families. I also hugely appreciate all the support offered by my fellow Reading Doctors across the country, especially The Reading Doctor founder Deborah and the wonderful Racheal from The Reading Doctor Poole.
I would like to take this opportunity to not only thank them, but also thank the wonderful students I work with and their families, past and present.
There are some exciting changes coming to The Reading Doctor Dorchester over the next couple of months which I cannot wait to share with everyone - so watch this space!
Here’s to the next 5 years - I cannot wait to see what it has in store! 📚🎉
