Today I led a relaxation session with some lovely nursery staff.
We talked about the power of positive affirmations and how negative thoughts are like velcro whilst positive ones are more like teflon, they need constant reinforcing!
I love this visual for showing how the practice of meditation and mindful activities increases your awareness of your own thoughts, helping to create enough space to respond rather than react to yourself and others.

A loving reminder...

⭐️ Edit ⭐️ we shared this after seeing it on Esther Sowerby’s post which she wrote about Christmas thinking about her son.

Be kind to me this Christmas... from a little person's point of view:

- You've probably let me eat more sugar than usual - I'm bound to have higher highs and lower lows.

- In the holidays I'm out of routine - I can cope better with transitions when I know exactly what's coming next so please explain our plans for the day clearly to me.

- The anticipation of Christmas can be pretty overwhelming and exhausting. Help me to rest by keeping to my normal bedtimes.

- Travelling at Christmas is stressful for all of us. When possible, be flexible about when we travel and check the traffic before we leave.

- I have no idea about the value of money - if there's no way I can have that giant lego set for Christmas, then please tell me well before Christmas morning. I'll have time to get over my disappointment and I'll learn to trust your honesty.

- Grown-ups find preparing for Christmas stressful. I know you want it to be perfect for me so I'll have memories I can cherish forever. But I see you getting stressed, sometimes even before you do. I pick up on it and reflect it like a mirror. Please slow down, notice me, talk to me, play with me. That's what I'll remember.

- When I lose it, and I probably will at some point, please don't make me ashamed of my feelings by shouting at me. I never set out to deliberately disappoint you and I didn't try to ruin your Christmas. I'm really not that calculated. I'm just a little person whose brain deals with stress in different ways to yours. Please try to understand me, from my point of view.

And when all else fails, wrap your arms around me and hold me so I feel the strength of your love.

The time of year when everything around us has the potential to get a little more hyped up and overwhelming for some, adults and children included. Factor in some time for yourself (believe me, I really do know how hard that is) and create some head space so that if friction does arise you have a better chance of calming the chaos rather than join in with it. The grounding exercise in the video is great for adults and children, it helps to calm the stress response in control of your mind and body. Make it part of your daily routine, flash the exercise in your mind as you walk (maybe at lunchtime), the more you do it, the more likely you are to use it when under pressure.
Classes for primary age children coming soon, I will be running a poll later on which areas would like block bookings and half term workshops in 2020!
Adults don't feel left out, message below if you want to get in first or fancy an adult vision boarding evening to set yourself up for 2020!

You can’t beat the power of music and dance on your mind, body and feelings!
Today in class, we couldn’t get enough of crazy frog! Yep, I know, probably not your first choice but I bet your children all love it! I’m sure that baby shark and the new Frozen songs will also be making an appearance in our dance warm ups over the next few months too!
If I was to build a playlist, what would be your favourite feel good song? There are so many it’s hard to choose!
Add the title of the songs to the comments below and help me build the best playlist ever! You can always check back in here when you need a song for a bit of uplifting. Who’s going to start things off?
