📱 Screen Time for Under 5s

We understand that screens can be a part of family life, but for young children, less is often more.

For children under 5, we encourage screen time to be limited, purposeful and age appropriate, with lots of opportunities for children to play, explore, talk, read, be active and spend time outdoors.

When screens are used, watching together and talking about what your child is seeing can help make the experience more meaningful and support their learning.

At nursery, we focus on providing children with hands on experiences , social interaction, imaginative play and active learning. Here at Jumpin Jacks we now have a no screen policy.

There is no need to feel guilty about occasional screen time at home — it’s all about finding a healthy balance that works for your family. ❤️

🍂 Welcome, Autumn! 🍁
Our autumn display is helping the children discover the wonderful changes happening all around us. Through exploring leaves, conkers, acorns, pumpkins, pinecones and other natural treasures, the children are developing their curiosity, vocabulary and understanding of the changing seasons. We have sent home bags for children to collect some Autumn treasure and we will be encouraging them to look closely, make observations, compare what they find and talk about the colours, textures, animals and plants they discover. We can’t wait to see what you all find 🌿🦔🎃

Through lots of gentle, playful experiences, our around the world topic gives the children opportunities to explore countries, people, languages, maps, flags, look at different buildings, listen to music, enjoy stories, create colourful artwork and discover foods from different parts of the world.

Today our buttercups have explored this sensory tray which creates different experiences by using sensory materials such as sand, green rice and a chia seed slime with small-world animals, logs and natural resources. This gives children an opportunity to explore how different creatures live and move in their environments.

Handling the small figures and natural materials supports fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination whilst making connections and comparisons about the world around them as well as developing their vocabulary.

Our Daisies have been learning ‘All About Me’ this week. Giving children the chance to explore what makes them unique, special and different, while developing a sense of identity and belonging. These focus books provide a wonderful starting point for conversations about ourselves, our families, our feelings, similarities and differences.

This topic supports Personal, Social and Emotional Development, particularly children developing a sense of self, confidence, independence and an understanding of their own and others feelings and helps children to understand that

Our Buttercups have been having lots of fun in their new mud kitchen! Getting stuck into play, scooping, pouring, mixing and creating their very own dishes 🤎

Through this hands-on play, our babies are developing their fine and gross motor skills, communication, exploring different textures and building confidence through a sensory experience. But most importantly, they are having lots of fun!
