Your Business Analyst skills deserve to be recognised for more than producing documents.

If stakeholders mainly know you for meeting notes, requirements and Jira updates, they may be seeing only part of your contribution.

Those activities matter. Their value becomes clearer when your analysis uncovers an assumption, exposes a risk or helps someone choose between competing options.

Imagine a stakeholder asks for another approval stage. You document the request, then investigate: will this reduce errors, or simply make an already slow process slower? What evidence supports the change?

That is critical thinking in business analysis. It connects what stakeholders request with the outcome they actually need.

Before your next task, ask: “What decision should be better because of this work?”

Your PhD supervisor writes, “This needs to be more critical.” Three days of rewriting later, the next draft comes back: “Still too descriptive.” If this sounds familiar, your next step is to identify what the feedback actually requires.

The issue could be your argument, the evidence you use, how you compare studies or how you connect ideas. Changing the wording can leave those problems unresolved, making another round of thesis revisions feel just as frustrating as the last.

Before rewriting, ask: “What needs to change, and what revision would address it?” Turning supervisor feedback into a diagnosis, a decision and a focused next action gives your work clearer direction.

Your stakeholder ignored your recommendation. Three weeks later, the risk you flagged became a problem. Then came the question: “Why didn’t we see this coming?”

For a Business Analyst, that moment is frustrating. You identified the risk and presented the evidence, yet your analysis had little influence on the decision.

Strong Business Analysis requires more than accurate findings. Stakeholders need to understand the available options, the trade-offs involved and the likely consequences for delivery, costs or customer outcomes. When those connections are unclear, even a well-supported recommendation can be overlooked.

Before presenting your next recommendation, connect the evidence to the business risk. Explain the options, make the consequences visible and clarify who owns the decision. This is how stakeholder management and decision support become part of your everyday BA practice.

Your project may have too many meetings and still not enough decisions. The calendar is full, updates are being sent, actions are being recorded and stakeholders are attending every call. Yet the same issues keep returning.

This is when leaders need to ask a different question: do we have a delivery problem, or do we have a decision problem?

Projects often stall when ownership is unclear, stakeholders want different outcomes, dependencies remain unresolved and nobody can confidently say what happens next. Another meeting may create more discussion, but it does not automatically create clarity.
