Maths champion programme
On April 1st HollyGrove became inducted on the NDNA maths champion programme. The programme is a 12 month online training course to give our educators a deeper understanding of how children develop maths skills and knowledge. Our staff based with our 2,3 and 4 year olds will be actively involved in the programme under the guidance of Lisa ( maths champion lead), completing audits of the learning environment to regularly review the resources, learning Environment and the mathematical language we use within our activities and learning opportunities. We will provide core activities to develop knowledge and understanding of numbers, shapes, quantities, positions, direction and weight and record observations of children within each age group at the beginning, during and at the end of the programme to measure progress of maths knowledge and skills. Our staff will also complete training to gain more knowledge of the wider areas of maths development within the early years. We will post ideas of activities on our pages which can be adapted and provided at home as well as songs, rhymes and stories to develop maths skills.
