🙌🏻 More great feedback from a parent of an intern that previously ‘fell through the cracks of the education system’.

🌟 Supported internships are life changing and don’t just take our word for it. Read to the end if your child was lost in the system and you are now thinking, ‘what next?’ 🌟

Some young people slip through the cracks not because they don’t need support, but because they’re quiet… compliant… “good.”
This intern went through her whole education without an EHCP - not because she didn’t need one, but because she wasn’t seen. 😔

She’s been out of education for three years.
Three years of feeling stuck.
Three years of being overlooked.

And now, with the support of Aspirations Doncaster, she has finally been awarded an EHCP specifically for her supported internship - a life‑changing investment from Doncaster Local Authority that is already transforming her future and protecting her from becoming economically inactive. 👏

Her mum shared this message, and it says everything:

“Hiya, I just wanted to let you know that she is absolutely loving it 🥰

Never known her so eager to get up in a morning! She’s made friends with another girl - her first friend since primary school - and she’s elated. She’s even driving herself after just a couple of days of me going with her. It’s so amazing… me and my mum have been crying 😂 happy tears of course, but we just can’t believe it. Thank you for everything xx”

This is what happens when a young person is finally understood. 👌
When the right support is put in place.
When someone invests in their future instead of letting them disappear.

This intern is stepping into her confidence, her independence, her adulthood - and she’s doing it with joy.

We are so proud of her. 💛

Please read to the end if you are a young person 18-25 and stuck, thinking you aren’t good enough or there’s nothing out there for you, this quote is from a parent after just one week with Aspirations Doncaster.

Some journeys begin quietly… and then suddenly you realise just how far a young person has come in such a short time.

One of our parents shared this, and it captures everything we believe in at Aspirations Doncaster - that supported internships are about so much more than just getting a paid job. They’re about confidence, independence, belonging, and finally being understood.

“I wasn’t guna message u because I didn’t wanna be that parent 🤣… but the progress already is unbelievable. He hasn’t left the house in a year - and now look at him.

He’s setting his alarm, getting showered, and even when the taxi is late, he stays calm. He’s walking out of the house next door to all the school kids and parents… something I never thought I’d see.

He messages to check how he’s arriving and leaving the next day.

He talks about Denise all the time - he’s never mentioned a teacher or worker’s name before. And he says he likes both her and Mick equally. He even said the other day that just him being there is progress. That’s something he’s clearly picked up from you, because I’ve never said it. His whole mindset is shifting.

All he’s ever needed is experienced people who understand him… and he’s finally got that. So thankful, Clair. Honestly. xx”

Aspirations Doncaster has been chosen as a finalist from more than 1,000 entries for the Social Mobility Award at the Inclusive Awards.

This nomination celebrates the work we do with young people with SEND - helping them build confidence, gain independence, and access real employment opportunities through Supported Internships.
