🎨 Some seriously creative thinking from one of our paint apprentices!

Cameron Garner has finished this wing using a brilliantly inventive masking technique — cutting up an unconventional fabric to create a unique textured pattern before spraying over it. The result speaks for itself.

After the paintwork, Cameron then polished the wing to an incredible finish, really making the pattern pop. This piece brought together so many of the core skills he's developing on his Vehicle Damage Paint Technician course — masking, surface preparation, colour application and polishing — all finished off with a good bit of creative problem-solving.

It's exactly the kind of thinking outside the box, paired with the technical skill to execute it well, that makes a great painter.

Brilliant work, Cameron. 👏

🔧 The Grease build update — let's talk about the rear...

One of the most dramatic changes to the build so far has been the rear of the car — the roof has been chopped and our apprentices have completely reimagined the back end, fabricating an entirely new structure from scratch.

What makes this project so special is everything our apprentices are learning along the way. The work on the rear alone has pushed them to develop a real range of industry skills — welding, fabrication, panel shaping, filler work and structural metalwork — all applied to a genuine hands-on project that they can be proud of.

What started as a standard city car is already looking like something very different, and the transformation is only going to get more impressive from here.

Check Mat out, he's only gone and passed his C+E driving test this morning at the first attempt, straight from car too, and with only 1 driver fault. So a massive well done to him. It's great getting to this point after all the hard work and I love sharing this moment with my students. Well done again, and thank you again for the Peronis.

🚗 A very exciting project is underway at GTA...

Our apprentices are currently transforming an old Citroën C1 into a hot rod-style car inspired by Grease for a local production.

This project is giving learners the chance to develop and showcase a wide range of industry skills, including welding, fabrication, filler work, MET, panel alignment, and paint preparation.

It is a fantastic hands-on opportunity for our apprentices to apply what they are learning in a real project and see a vehicle transformation take shape step by step.

We are looking forward to sharing the progress along the way — keep an eye out for more updates as the build continues. 👀

🏆 What a day at the WorldSkills National Qualifiers!

On 22nd May, two of our Vehicle Damage Paint Technician apprentices — Mason Clarke and Harvey Gilberthorpe — represented GTA at the WorldSkills national qualifying event, competing against some of the best young talent in the country. Just getting to this stage is a serious achievement, and both lads should be incredibly proud of what they've done to get there.

A massive congratulations to Mason, who finished 2nd, hoping he will progress to the National Finals once all the results have come through. 🙌

A big thank you also to GTA Bodyshop Tutor John Pearson, who made the trip to be there on the day and support both lads. That kind of backing means everything.

Well done to you all — it's been a privilege to watch you represent GTA at this level. 👏
