This message landed in my WhatsApp a couple of weeks ago and I'm still smiling about it. 🌸

"Just needs hemming. The most difficult dress I have ever made. I wouldn't have got there without you!"

That's Dianne. She tackled a shirt dress - collar, buttons, cuffs, tie belt - the whole thing. And she did it.

There were moments when it felt hard. When the tricky bits felt very tricky indeed. But she stuck with it.

Somewhere between "I'm going to learn to sew" and actually learning to sew, life gets in the way. The machine goes back in its bag. The bag goes on the chair. The chair becomes a very expensive fabric storage unit. 😄

This was her first ever completed make, a perfectly finished denim wrap skirt, and I still think about the look on her face when she put it on.

Ella came to Sewing School not knowing if she could do this.

She absolutely could. She just needed the right support around her.

Can I ask you something a bit personal?

When you imagine walking into a sewing class for the first time — what's the feeling that comes up?

For a lot of people it's not excitement. It's something closer to dread.

What if I'm the slowest one? What if everyone else already knows what they're doing? What if I ask a question and it's obvious I have no idea?

I hear this more than almost anything else. And I want to say something clearly:
That feeling? It's not a sign that sewing isn't for you. It's a sign that you've been in situations before where not knowing something felt unsafe. Where making a mistake meant embarrassment.

Sewing School at Love & Stitches Studio is not that place.

Small groups. A genuinely warm atmosphere. And a teacher who has heard every "silly" question there is — and never once thought it was silly.
