I have been a dressmaker for over 25 years, and have been sharing my skills with you as a tutor since 2015.

My friendly and welcoming classes have built a loyal following, and with my client’s enjoying my easy-to-understand and patient teaching style, their skills have grown. It is my mission to reach, inspire and empower as many people as possible to sew their own clothes and to teach them to become better dressmakers. Love & Stitches Club price increases tomorrow morning - join today and lock in £17/month for as long as you stay a member.

October's sew-along is the Tilly & the Buttons Iris Knickers. And today I can also share - kits are available.

I've put together kits so you have everything in one go. Each kit includes enough to make 2 pairs in UK sizes 6 to 34:

💕 The Iris Knickers pattern
💕 Fabric in Under the Sea or Pretty Kitty
💕 Picot elastic and fold over elastic, so you can try both finishes
💕 Bows and lining for the gusset

Everything you need to make your first pair, ready to go. No hunting for the right jersey, no guessing on notions.

The sew-along starts 1st October. The price goes up tomorrow.

This is the Tilly & the Buttons Iris Knickers - October's Love & Stitches Club sew-along - and I am genuinely delighted with how they came out.

Jersey, and picot or fold over elastic, and a fit that actually works for a real body. That is the whole point.

The Tilly & the Buttons Iris Knickers.

Yes, really. And before you scroll past - hear me out.

Making your own underwear is one of those things that sounds intimidating until you actually do it. The pattern is beginner-friendly, the skills transfer to everything else you make, and the result is underwear that actually fits your body - not a standardised size that is close enough.

Sizes 6–32. Jersey fabric. Lace or picot or fold over elastic finish. The kind of make that once you start, you make twenty of.

October sew-along is live for members from 1st October. Join before the end of Wednesday and you lock in the current price of £17/month - I am increasing it on Thursday morning.

Not beginners. People who have been at it for a while.

"I feel like I have stopped improving. I keep making the same mistakes and I do not know how to get past them."

This is one of the most common places sewists get stuck. And it is almost never about talent. It is about not having the right eyes on what you are doing.

When you have been teaching yourself, you cannot see your own blind spots. You just know that something is not right and you cannot figure out what.

That is exactly what 1:1 lessons are for. I watch what you are actually doing. I find the specific thing. And we fix it.

Something a bit different for anyone who has been putting off learning to sew because they can't commit to a weekly class. 🧵

The 5-day Sewing School intensive is exactly what it sounds like - five consecutive mornings in the studio, 10am to 12.30pm, focused entirely on building your sewing skills from the ground up.

No week-long gaps where you lose momentum. No trying to remember what you covered last Wedesday. Just five mornings of consistent, progressive, properly supported learning.

By Friday you will have covered more than most people manage in months of trying to teach themselves.

The next one runs Monday 19th to Friday 23rd October, 10am–12.30pm.

If October feels like the right time to finally do this - it probably is.

Something I want to explain about how 1:1 sewing lessons actually work. 🧵

A lot of people try to learn to sew from YouTube. And YouTube is brilliant - I watch it myself. But there is one thing a video cannot do.

It cannot see you.

It cannot spot that your fabric is shifting slightly as you feed it through the machine. It cannot notice that your cutting is just a fraction off grain. It cannot tell you that the reason your zip keeps puckering is a tension issue, not a technique issue.

When you sew with me, I am watching what you are actually doing. In real time. And I can fix the specific thing that is actually going wrong - not just explain the general theory.

Can we talk about Sophie for a moment? 🌸

She walked into Sewing School this week wearing this - a full co-ordinated set she made herself over the summer. Wide leg trousers in that bold abstract print, a matching crop top with ric-rac trim at the hem.

I keep thinking about the boldness of that fabric choice. The confidence it takes to say "yes, I want both these" and then actually make it happen.

You cannot buy this combination in a shop. Not this exact thing. Not made to fit your body, in the fabric you chose, in the colourway that makes you feel like that.

That's what sewing gives you.
