The most common practical worry I hear about Sewing School. 🧵
“I’d love to, but I’m not sure I can commit to five weeks.”
So here’s what I want you to know about how Sewing School actually works.
Yes, there are 5-week courses - and they’re brilliant for people who want a structured, progressive journey.
But there are also 5-day intensives if a full week suits you better than a weekly commitment.
And if you genuinely can’t commit to either right now - single sessions are available, so you can start without the pressure of a full course.
Mornings. Evenings. Sundays. There are options designed for real, busy lives.
I don’t want “I’m not sure I can fit it in” to be the thing that stops you. Let’s find the format that works for you.

Learn to make your own clothes Hello! I’m Alison
I have been a dressmaker for over 25 years, and have been sharing my skills with you as a tutor since 2015.
My friendly and welcoming classes have built a loyal following, and with my client’s enjoying my easy-to-understand and patient teaching style, their skills have grown. It is my mission to reach, inspire and empower as many people as possible to sew their own clothes and to teach them to become better dressmakers. Are you frustrated making clothes that don’t look or fit right and never get worn? I

The most common practical worry I hear about Sewing School. 🧵
"I'd love to, but I'm not sure I can commit to five weeks."
So here's what I want you to know about how Sewing School actually works.
Yes, there are 5-week courses - and they're brilliant for people who want a structured, progressive journey.
But there are also 5-day intensives if a full week suits you better than a weekly commitment.

Can I talk about something that comes up a lot? 🧵
"I tried to learn to sew once before. It didn't really work out."
Maybe it was a kit. A YouTube tutorial. A class that moved too fast. A pattern that assumed you already knew more than you did.
And so you concluded - quietly, reasonably - that maybe sewing just isn't for you.
I want to offer a different explanation.
Most people who feel like they've failed at sewing haven't failed at sewing. They've just not yet found the right support.
The right teacher watches what you're actually doing. Spots the specific thing that's going wrong. Explains it in a way that makes sense to you, not just in general.
That's what Sewing School is designed to be. Small groups, so I can see everyone. A pace that respects where you actually are. A space where "I tried this before and it went wrong" is the beginning of the conversation, not a reason not to come.
September courses open now.

Something I want to say to anyone who has thought about booking Sewing School and talked themselves out of it. 🧵
"I'll probably be the slowest one there."
I hear this so often. And I want to gently tell you - it has never once been true in the way people imagine it.
Sewing School isn't a race. There's no finish line per session. No moment where everyone looks over to see how far along you are.
What there is: a small, friendly group of people at different stages, all focused on their own work, all quietly cheering each other on.
The person you're worried about being? The slowest, the least capable, the one who holds everyone back? In ten years of teaching I have never once had a student who fit that description.
Not one.
September Sewing School - small groups, warm space, proper support. Spaces still available.

Something I want to address this week, one honest conversation at a time. 🧵
The number one thing that stops people booking Sewing School isn't actually the time or the cost.
It's a fear.
"What if I'm not good enough?"
And I want you to know is that that question makes complete sense. We live in a world that celebrates expertise and makes beginners feel like they should already know things before they start.
But here's the truth: nobody walks into Sewing School knowing what they're doing. That's the entire point.
Good enough isn't the entry requirement. Curious is the entry requirement.
September Sewing School. The door is open.

Sunday thought. 🧵
If you've been following along this summer - the retreats, the student makes, the sew-alongs - and quietly thinking "I wish I was doing that"...
I want to gently say: you could be.
Sewing School in September is exactly the starting point. Small groups, a warm welcoming space, and a teacher who genuinely loves helping people discover what they're capable of.
All skill levels - complete beginner right through to confident dressmaker. Mornings, evenings, Sundays.
September is coming and spaces are limited.

A slightly quieter week ahead this week, I'm taking a few days off. ☀️
I've scheduled some posts to keep things ticking over, so you'll still hear from me.
If you've been thinking about Sewing School, the booking system is always open - no need to wait to hear from me directly.

Friday. The Madrone Pants project is still very much in progress. 🌿
Between the retreat and 1:1 sessions this week it's been a busy one. But the pattern is ready, the secondhand fabric is waiting, and this is happening.
Sometimes the most honest content is showing you where something is - not where it ends up. More to come.
Happy Friday everyone. Whatever you're making this weekend, I hope it brings you joy. 🌸

Day two of the Summer Days Retreat. 🌿
Looks are being finished. Details are being obsessed over. Garments are being tried on for the first time.
That moment - when someone holds up something they've made and realises it's actually, genuinely good - never gets old.
If you're watching and thinking this looks like exactly what you need - the End of Summer Retreat on 5th & 6th September still has spaces.
Same magic. A different, golden season.

It's retreat day. 🌿
The Summer Days Retreat is underway - and I'm not going to say much because the guests deserve to experience it first.
But I will say this: there is something about a room full of people who have given themselves permission to just make things, with no other agenda, that I find endlessly moving.
More tomorrow. 🌸
