Shaw Wood Academy Ambition- Resilience- Excellence Welcome and thank you for taking the time to look at page. We have high expectations of all children and staff.

We hope it will give you an insight into our school and be the beginning of a partnership between home and school which we value greatly and will strive to maintain. We welcome the opportunity to work with you to enable your child/children to have the best learning experiences possible. Working together with parents/carers and families to support children is a key part of our success. The school has been awarded the Leading Parent Partnership Award but we are always striving to improve and we welcome your comments and observations. If something is working well please tell us but, more importantly, if you feel that something is not as it should be tell us that too - we really do value your contributions. Our aims are to:
• Create a happy, stimulating and caring environment in which each child feels confident, secure and valued.
• Encourage all children to welcome new challenges, look for solutions and celebrate their own and others’ successes.
• Motivate children to become independent, confident and successful learners.
• Provide a holistic, broad, balanced, relevant and challenging accessible curriculum in which pupils will be encouraged to reach their full potential.
• Develop confidence in ‘trying’ (mistakes don’t matter, but how and what we learn from them does!).
• Encourage children to respect and value other cultures and beliefs and become caring, confident and educated members of a multi-faith, multi-cultural society.
• Promote close co-operation between home, school and the wider community

Shaw Wood Academy is a friendly and welcoming place. Everyone is expected to do the very best that they can and we work really well together as a team to achieve this. Respect is vital. Yesterday was the girls’ turn at the Schools Sports Football Festival. ⚽️

The girls played some great football and came away with 2nd place after winning 3 of their 4 games. 🥈

Every player showed great teamwork, determination and sportsmanship throughout the afternoon.

Well done, girls! 👏

Free Parenting Support – Togetherness
Parenting can be wonderful, but we all know it can be challenging too!
Togetherness offers free courses to help parents understand their children, build positive relationships and manage some of the challenges of family life.
Topics include:
• Communication
• Child development
• Sleep
• Understanding and responding to behaviour
• Enjoying quality family time
Courses are available online or in small groups and are completely free.
We have been offered an online taster session for parents at our school on 10th November, 6pm–7pm.
If you’d like to find out more, please contact the school office and Miss Rees will send a link to you.
This is a great opportunity to pick up some helpful ideas and add to your parenting toolkit!

Children at Shaw Wood Academy are being invited to take part in The Big Future, a national survey led by the Children’s Commissioner for England.

The survey asks children about their lives, experiences and hopes for the future. It only takes a few minutes to complete, and every response helps ensure children’s voices are heard.

So far, 33 of our pupils have taken part!
