A really proud day for Orchard 🌳🍎

We've received the outcome of our recent Quality Assurance visit from Doncaster Council, and we're delighted to have achieved an overall GREEN status. 💚

We're especially proud to have achieved BLUE -Exceeding Standard Expectations for Personal Development, Behaviour & Attitudes. 💙

For us, that's a really special one.

Personal development sits at the heart of Orchard. Seeing our learners grow in confidence, build relationships, become more independent, find their strengths and start looking towards their futures is every bit as important to us as the qualifications they achieve.

We were also incredibly proud to see our curriculum described as “ambitious, well-planned and highly personalised”, recognising the work that goes into putting each learner's individual needs, interests and aspirations at the centre of their education.

But reports don't make Orchard what it is.

People do.

Our staff who show up every day, build relationships, adapt, encourage, challenge and genuinely care about getting the best for every learner.

And our learners, who keep showing us that progress comes in all shapes and sizes and give us plenty of reasons to be proud every single day.

So this result belongs to Team Orchard. 🌳🍎

Real industry experience in action!

Today we were delighted to welcome back Emerald Equine Vets to The Orchard Equine & Land-Based College for a fantastic session with our Post-16 learners.

Our learners took part in an engaging lecture and practical session covering key areas of equine health, including gastric ulcers, laminitis, abscesses and lameness, developing their knowledge and getting invaluable insight directly from experienced veterinary professionals.

We’re incredibly proud to have the Team at Emerald as ambassadors for The Orchard. Giving our learners opportunities to learn directly from industry professionals brings their studies to life, builds confidence and helps prepare them for their future careers.

A huge thank you to the Team at Emerald for giving your time, sharing your expertise and supporting the next generation of equine professionals. 🍎🌳

Reins & Roots

Horses are obviously a big part of life at Orchard, but Reins & Roots is about much more than simply spending time with them.

Through practical equine learning, our learners develop skills in horse care, welfare and stable management alongside some of the things that matter far beyond the yard.

Confidence.

Communication.

Responsibility.

Resilience.

Teamwork.

Independence.

For some learners, working alongside a horse gives them the opportunity to develop these skills in a way that feels natural and has a real purpose.

It's about learning practical skills, but it's also about growing as a person.

It's never just a yard job.

Something as simple as preparing a horse's feed can involve a lot more learning than you might think.

- Reading and following instructions.

- Weighing and measuring.

- Understanding what each horse needs.

- Managing time.

- Following routines.

- Working safely.

- Taking responsibility.

And eventually being trusted to complete the job independently. That's one of the reasons practical learning works so well at Orchard.English and maths aren't always confined to a workbook.

Sometimes there's a real job to do, a reason for doing it and someone relying on you to get it right. That's learning too. 🌳🍎

A brilliant day at Doncaster Futures Fair 🌳❤️

Today some of our team and Post-16 learners headed over to the Doncaster Futures Fair, and we had such a good day.

It was lovely to meet so many different providers, catch up with people we already know and finally put some names to faces.

We also had the chance to meet some parents and young people who were really passionate about what we're doing at Orchard. We had some brilliant conversations about our approach to education, what we offer and the difference a smaller, practical and supportive learning environment can make.

It's always lovely meeting people who just get what we're trying to create. 🤍

Safe to say meeting Ambispace & having some time in the Igloo was a firm favourite with both learners and staff! We absolutely loved it and we're already wondering whether we might be able to have one at Orchard in the future... 🤞🏼

Our learners were brilliant today too.
We used the visit as part of their Personal Development work in their L2, giving them the opportunity to get out, meet new people, ask questions, have conversations and build their confidence in a busy environment. And they absolutely smashed it. 🥰

Of course, we couldn't go to a Futures Fair without taking a member of the Orchard animal team...
🐰 Clover came along with us and was the best girl all day, happily handing out bunny cuddles to anyone who wanted one. We think she may have made more friends than the rest of us combined! 😂

A huge thank you to everyone involved in today's event, all the providers who took the time to speak with us and our learners, and all the parents and young people who stopped by to find out more about Orchard.

Days like today are a really important part of learning here , getting out, meeting people, experiencing new environments and building the confidence and skills our young people can take with them into adult life.

Learner of the Month - Laura

This month, we're really pleased to recognise Laura, one of our Post-16 Reins & Roots learners, as our Learner of the Month.

At Orchard, progress is personal, and Laura's progress since joining us has been significant.

Laura has gone from finding attendance incredibly difficult to coming into Orchard independently and managing the whole morning, A huge step from where she started.

But it's not just about attendance.

Laura is beginning to feel more comfortable around others, build trusting relationships and open up a little more, allowing us to get to know the person behind the nerves . her personality, her interests and the things that matter to her.

For Laura, these are big steps, and we know how much courage they have taken.

Reins & Roots is about building confidence, connection and independence at the learner's own pace, and Laura is doing exactly that.

We're really pleased to see her beginning to find her feet and make Orchard her own.

Well done Laura , a very well deserved Learner of the Month. 🌱💚

This is what learning looks like at Orchard. 🌳

It doesn't always mean sitting behind a desk.

Sometimes it's caring for a horse.

Working alongside someone else.

Following instructions.

Solving a problem.

Learning a new practical skill.

Taking responsibility for a job.

Or doing something independently that you once needed help with.

Of course, there are classrooms, workbooks and qualifications too.

But a lot of the learning at Orchard happens through doing.

And that's exactly how many of our learners learn best. 💚

A big thank you to Emma 💚

Yesterday we welcomed Emma Green Veterinary Physiotherapy to Orchard for a lecture and practical demonstration with our learners.

Emma is one of our new Industry Ambassadors, and it was great to have her here sharing her knowledge and experience with the group.

Our learners had the chance to learn more about veterinary physiotherapy, see some of Emma's work in practice and ask plenty of questions along the way.

Having professionals come into Orchard and spend time with our learners is something we really value. It gives them the opportunity to learn from people actually working in the industry and discover careers and opportunities they may not have considered before.

A huge thank you to Emma for giving up her time and making the session so interesting and hands on.

We're really pleased to have you as one of our Industry Ambassadors and look forward to having you back. 💚
