Private tuition with children’s self-esteem and confidence at the heart. Graduated Leeds Trinity University with BaHons in Primary Education, embarked on a full-time teaching career and quickly took the responsibility of a Subject Leader within school. As well as class teaching, I was, for many years, responsible for delivering specialist phonics support and tailored intervention programmes to help close the gap and support children in reaching their full educational potential. This broad range of experience has given me invaluable insight and understanding of the many ways to support different children in their learning of the curriculum and beyond; encouraging well rounded development. The Homework Club was born from the desire to bring a bespoke, tailored approach to learning out of the school environment to boost children’s self-esteem and give them confidence they can take with them back to the classroom. We strive to help children understand that facing challenges forges our pathway to success; making mistakes is not a failure, but an opportunity to learn and improve. We strive for positivity, resilience and to create a determined, confident attitude towards challenge.
- Structuring the Content
Each session runs for an optimal time of 45 minutes. Before the first session we will discuss your specific requirements, though don’t worry too much if you are not entirely sure which direction tutoring needs to take, as we have the tools to help us assess and formulate your child’s personalised plan. The first session will be a chance to (sneakily) make these assessments, for your child to learn the structure of their sessions and, most importantly, a chance to meet their new tutor! Lessons can focus on:
• Handwriting
• Maths
• Read, Write Inc. Phonics and Reading Development
Before the initial session we will work together and discuss the individual needs for your child. The sessions can be used to target specific topics that you have identified already, or perhaps your child needs more general teaching in order to simply build their confidence in a certain subject, in which case we can work through the curriculum areas as they would in a typical school based lesson, identifying any areas of difficulty as we go along. This one to one way of working means barriers to learning can be identified and addressed immediately. The work we do with your child is completely flexible in order to enable us to target areas of difficulty as and when they arise on your child’s leaning journey.
