Another Feel Good Friday for our Year 8 students.

A huge congratulations to this week’s scholars who achieved the highest number of merits.

This week in Poetry Club, scholars have been practising their sonnet-writing skills. In Year 8, scholars have been learning the conventions of a Shakespearean sonnet and are even able to write in iambic pentameter.

The effort, dedication and confidence shown by these scholars, who willingly give up their free time to develop their understanding of poetry and create their own work, is truly outstanding. Their commitment reflects the value we place on scholarship at Astrea Woodfields and the enthusiasm our scholars have for extending their learning beyond the classroom.

We were delighted to welcome Jasleen back to school this morning.

Jasleen left Woodfields three years ago and is now studying Law at the University of Leeds. She delivered an inspiring assembly to our CO30 Scholars before spending over an hour answering questions from a panel of students eager to learn more about university life, studying law, and her journey since leaving Woodfields.

At this time of year, we ensure that all scholars understand the dangers associated with open water. This message is particularly important given recent tragic incidents, both locally and nationally.

Water safety has been discussed during Family Dining sessions and is also featured in this half term’s Morning Meeting booklets. In addition, next month South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service will be delivering a presentation to Co31 on “Light Nights”, which includes important water safety guidance. Representatives from the local charity Sam’s Army – Mission 1 Life will also be speaking to scholars in Co29–Co32 to further raise awareness of this vital issue.

We encourage all families to review the guidance below and discuss water safety at home:

• South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service – Water Safety and Drowning Prevention: https://rnli.org/safety

• Water Safety Advice and Tips – Know the Risks: https://rnli.org/safety

• Sam’s Army – Mission 1 Life: https://samsarmysmisson1life.co.uk/

Working together, we can help keep our young people safe and informed.
