Crossing midline is the skill of reaching across the middle of the body with an arm or leg to complete a task on the other side of the body. Before kids learn to cross midline, they typically will only use one side of the body at a time.
Crossing the midline is vital to the development of using both sides of the body together, such as putting on shoes and socks, writing and cutting. It promotes the coordination and communication of the left and right hemispheres of the brain.

This week I have seen questions online asking how to set up reading activities for a 2 year old and how to teach a 3 year old how to count 😓
I feel like society and social media these days is pushing our kids towards academic success without knowing children's brain development which starts with integrating reflexes, motor skill development, imaginative play skills and sensory play.
Even speaking to my chiropractor yesterday, she said she hears from a lot of families who are excited that their baby is walking before 12 months, or their 9 week old baby is already rolling.
Please remember that the brain needs to build the foundation for movement, play, self-regulation and sensory integration, years before the brain needs to be worrying about reading, writing and counting.
If you have a 2 year old, bring out tubs and pots and scoops and natural items like in this picture and give your child the time to explore and play without reading, writing or counting.
Building the foundation for brain development is more important than achieving milestones in a hurry.
