Happy Pi Day! 𝛑🥧

The value of Pi - 3.14 - is one of the oldest, but well-known Mathematical constants known to man. Remarkably, it also happens to be Albert Einstein's birthday, and the death of Professor Stephen Hawking. 🧠

Pi Day also coincides with the International Day of Mathematics to celebrate Mathematical sciences, and the role Maths can, and will play in addressing many of the challenges we face today i.e. climate change, energy & sustainable development, artificial intelligence.

It's British Science Week! ⚗️🧪🧫🧬🔬🔭📡

British Science Week is a 10 day celebration of Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths (STEM). 🥳 Activities are happening across the UK in schools and the community, celebrating these subjects, and showcasing what they have to offer!

We hope there are children and adults alike, who view Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths as viable fields to enter, and begin exciting careers!

Today is World Book Day 2025! 🤩 📚

It's a fantastic opportunity for children to dress up and celebrate their favourite characters, and really explore their favourite stories and why they enjoy to read!

The National Literacy Trust also encourages people to take part in the "Take 10 To Read" Challenge. It's simple - spend 10 minutes of your day reading! Give it a try, and give your brain a short workout!

🥳🤩 NEW STUDENT PORTAL LAUNCH 🥳🤩

We're delighted to finally roll out our new Student Portal for students and parents/carers!

Some of the major benefits are:

⭐Sessions are recorded and uploaded, so students can watch them back for revision purposes. Parents/Carers can also watch them so they can see exactly what happens during their child's session! This offers complete transparency on our tutors' teaching methods, and your child's engagement with the learning process.

⭐An array of resources are being developed and uploaded onto the Portal, allowing students the chance to take ownership of their learning beyond tuition.

⭐A new Student Calendar with Session Links posted for your child's session.

⭐A new invoice & receipt system.

We're delighted that our current students will be able to take advantage of some of the offerings, particularly being able to rewatch their sessions as they approach their summer exams.

⭐Year 11 students will be undertaking their Mock Exams this month. We recommend these tips to help them prepare, and adopt as examinations and assessments become a regular feature for the rest of the academic year. 👍

🟡It may surprise you to know that there are no legal obligations for private tutors to undergo background checks.

It may further surprise you that a BBC investigation found that 90 private tutors in the UK have been convicted of sexual assault in the last 20 years.

Although word-of-mouth tuition can be very successful, it's extremely concerning for parents and teachers that anyone can promote themselves as a tutor without relevant experience, qualifications or background checks.

We back calls by the Children's Commissioner, Rachel de Souza, for all tutors to undergo DBS checks, and further background checks.

Star Maths tutors and staff hold enhanced DBS certificates, have completed safeguarding training, and have had background checks carried out. Our tutors also hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
