Liam "Donkey" Donaghy
The untimely death this morning of Liam Donaghy brings the total of St. Patrick's Academy Dungannon The Spirit of '79 alumni who are letting it rip in heaven to 5 ... and probably giving Faulsey, The Mac and all their old departed teachers lots of trouble ...
Fading memory suggests that Liam was at the centre of things during those two sixth years when the Clubland ... the Glenavon ... Blazers .... Hedleys and the Coffee Bean were as often on the agenda as double geography last 2 on a Friday ... (with tea ... homewheat digestives ... and the odd marlboro red thrown in for good measure ...)
He was a man apart and his enthusiasm will live long in our memories ... and I'll let Dylan sum it up ....
"May God bless and keep us always
May our wishes all come true
May we always do for others
The things we want others to do
May we build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung
May we always stay
Forever young ..."
The Spirit of 1979 extends our sympathy to his wife Maria, his son Shea, sisters Ann, Una, Teresa and Marion and extended family circle ...
