Dollar Academy CCF held its annual Inspection Day on Monday 5th October, welcoming Group Captain S. Khan, Regional Commandant for Scotland and Northern Ireland, RAF Air Cadets.

From the formal parade and march past to the afternoon’s activities, the cadets at Dollar Academy were outstanding. They demonstrated excellent teamwork, confidence and enthusiasm throughout the day. Group Captain Khan was highly impressed by the Contingent and the standards on display.

Contingent Commander Major Mark Scott said: “I am enormously proud of our cadets and grateful to the adult team. Their hard work made this a fantastic day and showed just what our young people can achieve through the Combined Cadet Force.”

The parade also fell during National Cadets Week, which is an annual celebration of the Cadet Forces and the positive impact they have on young people, schools, communities and wider society.

🐾 Paws for a Cause! 🐾

Pupils and all staff recently took part in a successful Non-Uniform Day to raise money for Therapet Scotland, a charity that uses specially trained therapy dogs to support wellbeing in schools, hospitals and care homes. 🐶

The school community showed tremendous generosity, with an impressive £1,812 raised so far. The funds will help Therapet continue its valuable work, providing comfort, companionship and emotional support to people of all ages.

A huge thank you goes to everyone who contributed to the event. The enthusiasm and kindness shown by pupils, families and staff have made a real difference. We are proud to support such a worthwhile cause and look forward to presenting the final total soon.

Recently, our J1A pupils headed out to Mill Green for an afternoon of environmental action! Guided by Clare Johnstone from The Conservation Volunteers (TCV), our young conservationists rolled up their sleeves to help manage the wildflower meadow. 🌾🧹

Key takeaways from the afternoon:
🐝 Boosting Biodiversity: Learning why wildflower meadows support far more wildlife than manicured lawns.

🌾 Raking for Science: Clearing cut grass to strip nitrogen from the soil, helping native wildflowers thrive!

🗡️ Roman Tech in Action: Seeing a traditional scythe in action. Its quiet rhythm gives local wildlife time to retreat safely.

🐭 Special Encounter: Spotting baby voles hiding in the grass and making sure they stayed safe!

Up next: J1B will head out to scatter wildflower seeds to feed our local pollinators! 🦋🐝

A huge thank you to TCV for leading such an inspiring, hands-on session! 💚

🎭 A classic tale with a twist!

Last week, our Junior 1 pupils brought Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf to life in a fantastic Cantata performance. After treating fellow students to a dress rehearsal during the day, they took to the stage that evening for an unforgettable show for parents.

Huge congratulations to all of our talented young performers for such a wonderful show! 👏🌟

🏆 5x British Champion! 🏆

We are thrilled to share another fantastic achievement from Form II pupil, Isabella!

Last weekend, Bella represented her new club, Raw Taekwondo, at the British Taekwondo Championships. Facing top talent from all across the country, she delivered an exceptional performance to claim the Gold medal and secure her 5th British Taekwondo Championship title.

Her impressive run included taking a 12-0 lead in just 30 seconds during her opening round! 🥋🔥

Bella's hard work continues as she prepares to represent the country at the World Kickboxing Championships in Maryland, USA, on October 19th. 🇺🇸

Congratulations, Bella, the entire Dollar community wishes you the best of luck on the world stage!

📚 At Dollar, Everyone Reads! 📚

Recently, our Form II pupils and staff took part in our very first Dollar Reads initiative! 📖✨

After choosing and reading a book over the summer from a curated list of 20 titles, 120 of our Form II pupils gathered in book-club-style sessions to discuss their reads, share ideas, and celebrate a shared love of reading.

To highlight that literacy spans every subject and passion, each of the 20 discussion groups was co-led by two staff members one from English or History & Modern Studies, and another from departments across the whole school! 🧠🎨🔬

A huge thank you to the 120 pupils and 40 staff members who helped make our inaugural Dollar Reads such a fantastic success. We can’t wait to see where this journey takes our young readers next!

🚀 DACCF are off to a flying start this year! Here’s a look back at our September highlights:

🎯 Exercise Silver Fox
On 19 September, 13 Infantry cadets headed to Barry Buddon Training Area for Ex Silver Fox. The focus? Tactical navigation—day and night—to sharpen core field skills.

🏆 Ochil Cadet Tactical Challenges (OCTC)
The very next day, 14 cadets tackled the first OCTC of the year, testing their military skills across navigation, first aid, close-quarter battle drills, leadership, and fieldcraft. Huge congratulations to CSgt Edward Anderson for taking home the first OCTC trophy of the year!

🤿 Royal Navy Sub Aqua Try Dive
Our RN section wasn't holding back either! Four cadets visited Glenalmond College for a try-dive session run by the RN diving team. Starting off safely in the pool, they picked up foundational sub-aqua skills that pave the way for future advanced training.

Stay tuned for more updates on what DACCF are getting up to this year! 🙌
