This week we have been learning about plants, flowers and seeds. We soaked bean seeds in water and watched the roots appear. We have put them in glass jars so we can observe the growth process. We also looked carefully at a range of plants and flowers and identified and named the flower, petal, stem and leaf. We then cut them into small pieces and discussed tbe smell and texture of them and used them to make a collaborative picture.

This week the cocoons hatched into beautiful butterflies. We kept them inside for a few days and gave them sugar water for energy. We then took them outside and released them. It was very exciting to see the caterpillars grow, spin the cocoon and then hatch.

We have been busy developing our finger and hand strength. We have pressed the trigger on squirty bottles, snipped flowers using scissors, tried to pick things up with tweezers and lifted watering cans to direct the flow of water. The tweezers were tricky to use but we persevered until we could do it.

This week we have been exploring our senses, with a focus on taste and smell. We tasted a variety of crisps and noticed they had different flavours and smells. We have also been learning about Road Safety and know that we have to 'Stop, Look and Listen' before crossing the road. We have some caterpillar friends in Nursery! We have been learning about their lifecycle. We can't wait to see what happens to them next! We made buns and carefully weighed the ingredients. We discussed what was heavy and light. We also had lots of fun weighing our toys and looking at the numbers on the scales.

Another busy week for us at Nursery! Spring has finally arrived and we have spent time learning about different animals and their babies. We painted our own chicks using sponge dabbers and paint brushes. We also began learning about Easter and the different ways people celebrate. Our story of the week was 'The Rainbow Fish' by Marcus Pfister. We made our own rainbow fish using empty milk bottles and colourful ribbon. We took them outside and the wind made the ribbons float. They looked beautiful!

It was National Science Week and in celebration we all became scientists! We predicted what might happen in our science experiments and then carried them out to see if we were correct. We dyed daffodils, watched the colour come out of skittles and observed colour seperation in ink. We also celebrated all of our lovely Mummies and made cards, decorated biscuits and talked about the things that make them special to us.
